The Thermal Cut Off is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. Ensuring proper functioning of the thermal cut off is crucial for the safety and efficiency of the dryer.

Causes of a bad thermal cut off can include regular wear and tear, exposure to high temperatures over extended periods, or electrical issues within the dryer.

Symptoms of a bad thermal cut off include:

  • The dryer not heating up
  • The dryer shutting off mid-cycle
  • The dryer not starting at all
  • Unusual overheating during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Angela, and thank you for your question. While the back panel is expected to get fairly warm from the heat vent routing through the back, if the heat is spreading to the top and side panels there could be an air leak allowing heat to escape into the cabin of the dryer. Inspecting parts such as the drum seal 280114 and the blower housing seal W11596046 for indications of failure would be recommended.

Gil, There are a couple of things that you will want to test for continuity. The first would be the door switch. With the door closed check to make sure that the door switch is showing continuity. If there is no continuity then the switch is bad. If continuity is present then test the thermal fuse on the blower housing. If there is no continuity replace the thermals fuse and if there is continuity then check the belt switch and belt. Make sure that the belt switch has continuity and that the belt is not broken.

Denise for Model Number WED9400sz1

Dryer gets extremely hot and then won't start back up, just says "sensing" on panel. All lights come on. We replaced the thermal fuse and thermistor but doesn't seem to fix the extreme heat problem. Do I need to replace the Thermal Cut Off and Thermostat? When the diagnostic test was done on the dryer, the codes were F30 (restricted air flow) and F25 (inlet thermistor). That's why we replaced the thermistor. We've cleaned out the entire venting ducts so the restricted air flow should now be fixed. Am I on the right track as far as ordering the above parts? Thanks!!

Denise, Yes replacing the thermal cutoff and hi limit does sound like the right choice with having the error codes and the situations being resolved.
