Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dryer Drum Support Roller (Part Number: OEM12025611)

Hello Gary, You either have a drum roller 12001541 failing or the idler pulley WP6-3700340 is failing. I normally try to replace all of the above at the same time. Since they all last about the same amount of time, the others are not long before failure. Be sure not to use any wet lubricant inside the dryer. If you want to lubricate anything in there use corn starch or baby powder. Also, be sure to remove and trash any metal washers used on the drum rollers. The fiber washers come with the drum rollers for the purpose of eliminating the metal ones that contribute to normal operating noise.

Hello Dan, Since the bushings are impregnated with a dry lubricant, lubrication is not necessary. If you absolutely must lubricate, the only thing you can use that won't interfere with a satisfactory use of the unit is either baby powder or corn starch. I have done this for a very long time and found through personal experience that the bushings will last considerably longer with no lubrication at all. If you do use the dry lubricant, use as little as possible as the dry lubricant will oppose turning of the rollers which will in turn cause excessive belt wear. When I clean the shafts and rollers, I use a dry paper towel. Do not sand them. I also stay far away from anything flammable inside the dryer cabinet so I recommend no alcohol. I know it dissipates quickly, but why chance it? It is, after all, inside your home.

This is a follow-up question. I asked: In reattaching the drum belt to the pulley assembly, the belt seems to rub against the L-shaped piece attached to the pulley. I viewed the diagram (http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/dryer-repair/25860-dryer-belt-diagrams.html) and I think I have it correct. The diagram does not show the L-piece but shows the belt going straight from the pulley to the drum. My assumption is that the belt should not rub on the L-piece. I’m thinking that maybe once the assembly is operational that the spring tension keeps the belt from rubbing, but I want to make sure before I reassemble the whole dryer. Any thoughts? This was the response: Hello Dan. There is 2 slots in the base for the pulley to install into. It sounds like you have it in the wrong slot and will need to use the one that is next to the motor. Hope this helps. That answer makes no sense to me. There are no slots. There is a small pulley attached to the motor and a larger pulley (white plastic) below it. The belt wraps around the two pulleys in an S fashion. The belt, when it leaves the lower pulley, goes up to the tumbler drum, but it is rubbing against the L-bracket en route. I’m guessing it shouldn’t. Can you help me figure this out?

Hello Dan. Yes, you are correct. The tension on the belt, should keep it from rubbing the l shaped piece. Hope this helps.

This is a follow-up question in replacing my dryer drum rollers and bulkhead assembly. I received the parts and attached them successfully. But in reattaching the drum belt to the pulley assembly, the belt seems to rub against the L-shaped piece attached to the pulley.
