1 Answer Hello Gary, You either have a drum roller 12001541 failing or the idler pulley WP6-3700340 is failing. I normally try to replace all of the above at the same time. Since they all last about the same amount of time, the others are not long before failure. Be sure not to use any wet lubricant inside the dryer. If you want to lubricate anything in there use corn starch or baby powder. Also, be sure to remove and trash any metal washers used on the drum rollers. The fiber washers come with the drum rollers for the purpose of eliminating the metal ones that contribute to normal operating noise. Read More...
Dan W. July 26, 2012 for Model Number It's an old Maytag. I'm trying to find out if it's a good idea to put some lubricant on squeaky (screeching) drum support rollers. Is that just going to attract lint, especially if it's oil that I put on, or grease? Is graphite better? Is there a 4th option that's better yet? Also, I took them off and cleaned them with rubbing alcohol. Was that a good idea? Should I get fine steel wool instead?
1 Answer Hello Dan, Since the bushings are impregnated with a dry lubricant, lubrication is not necessary. If you absolutely must lubricate, the only thing you can use that won't interfere with a satisfactory use of the unit is either baby powder or corn starch. I have done this for a very long time and found through personal experience that the bushings will last considerably longer with no lubrication at all. If you do use the dry lubricant, use as little as possible as the dry lubricant will oppose turning of the rollers which will in turn cause excessive belt wear. When I clean the shafts and rollers, I use a dry paper towel. Do not sand them. I also stay far away from anything flammable inside the dryer cabinet so I recommend no alcohol. I know it dissipates quickly, but why chance it? It is, after all, inside your home. Read More...
Tim February 17, 2012 for Model Number Maytag Dryer I've received the rear drum rollers I ordered, #AP40088534. How do I install them? The instructions say remove the front panel. How do you do that? With it removed, is that all I need to do?
1 Answer Hello Tim. You will need to raise the top of the dryer and remove the screws securing the front panel to access and replace the rollers 12001541 in the unit. We will need your model number to help you with this. Please post your model number with a new question on the parts page. Dan S. January 02, 2012 for Model Number LDG9206AAE This is a follow-up question. I replaced the drum support rollers and got the dryer back together. But now it won’t start (yes, I have it plugged in, and I have the yellow and blue wires connected correctly to the door switch). Any ideas?
1 Answer Hello Dan. You will need to disassemble the unit and see if any of the wires going to the motor, or thermal fuse have come loose. If not, you will need to test the door switch and see if it is bad and replace it if needed. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Dan S. December 31, 2011 for Model Number LDG9206AAE This is a follow-up question. I asked: In reattaching the drum belt to the pulley assembly, the belt seems to rub against the L-shaped piece attached to the pulley. I viewed the diagram (http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/dryer-repair/25860-dryer-belt-diagrams.html) and I think I have it correct. The diagram does not show the L-piece but shows the belt going straight from the pulley to the drum. My assumption is that the belt should not rub on the L-piece. I’m thinking that maybe once the assembly is operational that the spring tension keeps the belt from rubbing, but I want to make sure before I reassemble the whole dryer. Any thoughts? This was the response: Hello Dan. There is 2 slots in the base for the pulley to install into. It sounds like you have it in the wrong slot and will need to use the one that is next to the motor. Hope this helps. That answer makes no sense to me. There are no slots. There is a small pulley attached to the motor and a larger pulley (white plastic) below it. The belt wraps around the two pulleys in an S fashion. The belt, when it leaves the lower pulley, goes up to the tumbler drum, but it is rubbing against the L-bracket en route. I’m guessing it shouldn’t. Can you help me figure this out?
1 Answer Hello Dan. Yes, you are correct. The tension on the belt, should keep it from rubbing the l shaped piece. Hope this helps. Read More...
