The Oven Igniter is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens. It is designed to ignite the gas in the oven burner, providing the heat necessary for baking or broiling. This igniter is critical for the oven’s functionality, as it must heat up to a specific temperature to open the gas valve and begin the combustion process.

Symptoms of a bad Oven Igniter include:

  • The oven failing to heat up despite the gas being turned on.
  • A gas smell indicating that gas is being released without ignition.
  • Intermittent heating, where the oven fails to maintain a consistent temperature.

Causes of a bad oven igniter can include aging and wear that reduce the igniter’s ability to reach the required temperature, electrical issues such as faulty wiring or connections, or a malfunctioning safety valve that doesn’t open properly.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Oven Igniter (Part Number: OEM18041961)

Hello Nicole. You need to test the gas valve WPW10293048. You will want to check the oven safety valve for 216 Ohms of resistance between bake and common terminals. If there is not proper resistance then the valve is faulty and would need to be replaced. If this checks ok then you will want to check the burner for clogs or rust around the ports at this could cause a bad gas flow and cause the oven to not ignite.

Jose, You will want to check the oven sensor on the oven to make sure that it is good. At room temp of 77 degrees it should show 1090 ohms. As the temp rises 1 degree you will need to add 2 ohms of resistance. You will want to test this and the wiring from the oven control to the sensor. This issue will most likely be the sensor or control board that is causing this issue.

Phil, Allow a few days for the stove top to dry out, or use a heat gun/hair dryer and attempt to dry out the switches, wiring and igniters. If the problem persists replace the DSI spark module WPW10331686,first.

Fred, First remove the burner WP9758078 and check all the venture holes to make sure they are all clear, especially the cross over openings nearest the igniter. Shake the burner, if you hear light rattling noise, there is debris in the burner tube, you'll need to clean it out or replace the burner, Check the igniter WP8054129 and wire, make sure it is properly and tightly mounted to the bracket. If all checks OK, start by replacing the DSI spark module WPW10331686. There may be a weak bake igniter circuit, or the safety circuit is malfunctioning and the module is not registering a flame on the burner and shutting down the valve.
