The Oven Igniter is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens. It is designed to ignite the gas in the oven burner, providing the heat necessary for baking or broiling. This igniter is critical for the oven’s functionality, as it must heat up to a specific temperature to open the gas valve and begin the combustion process.

Symptoms of a bad Oven Igniter include:

  • The oven failing to heat up despite the gas being turned on.
  • A gas smell indicating that gas is being released without ignition.
  • Intermittent heating, where the oven fails to maintain a consistent temperature.

Causes of a bad oven igniter can include aging and wear that reduce the igniter’s ability to reach the required temperature, electrical issues such as faulty wiring or connections, or a malfunctioning safety valve that doesn’t open properly.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Oven Igniter (Part Number: OEM18041961)

Larene for Model Number whirlpool oven xfg374lvq0

I have had this oven for five years but it is in a second home and hasn't been used often. Several times I have been baking and the oven turns off then I can't reignite it. We unplugged it for a while, plugged it back in and the next morning the broiler worked but not the oven. Now the middle burner will ignite but nothing else. Seems to be intermittent. My husband found a red igniter wire had been pinched under the frame so that is concerning. We are thinking it could perhaps be the switch igniter circuit board, part # 9758080. It is expensive so we would like your opinion before ordering. I can't find a part number for the single red wire running from the circuit board to the oven igniter.

LaRene, If the unit is not sparking then it could be a bad spark module or could be a bad oven safety valve. You can test the safety valve for 216 ohms of resistance and if the top can be light by a match then the most likely cause will be the spark module WPW10331686. For the wire that runs to the oven igniters the part number would be WPW10701462

Henri, The model number supplied is incorrect or incomplete. The [WFG114SVW0] (closest model number) has a "glow bar" igniter W10918546, which matches a part of your description, but doesn't have a F5 error code (possibly F3 error code ?). Please recheck the model number and re post your question, also include an e mail address, so we can properly assist you in the diagnosis and repair of your gas range. Thanks

Eric, If the oven is burner shuts off within 30 to 60 seconds and then will not light or only stays on for short periods like that then this would be a oven safety valve issue.

Jackie for Model Number WFG524SLAB2

My oven isn't functioning properly. If the oven hasn't been used in several hours and it is cold it will light. I can hear it tick and then immediately engage. If I change the temperature it goes out and will not light again but I can still use the broiler, it ignites normally. It's only about 18 months old and Whirlpool said they will provide the part but not the labor. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this request for ideas and information.

Jackie, With the unit not relighting when hot, this sounds like it would be caused by a faulty oven safety valve. There are coils in the valve and the bake coil may be faulty.

Hello Randy, You should examine the unit for any discoloration of the wiring or connections. It is more likely to have a loose connection since a failing element will normally only last a few minutes. Don't neglect checking the wall outlet, the plug, and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the unit. I'm sorry but we cannot diagnose any closer without the units' I.D. tag. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Hello Bob. Controls displays “PUSH” , “PSH” or "P5H": The control requires an input. The Start pad begins any oven function. Push or Press the Start pad or key. Start begins any oven function. If Start is not pressed within 5 seconds, “PUSH?” or “PSH” appears in the display. If Start is not pressed within 1 minute after pressing a keypad, the function is canceled and the time of day is displayed. If there is no power coming to the spark module, you will need to replace the control board WPW10114373 on the unit.

Lisa, The most likely cause of this will be a igniter that is bad or the burner tube has rust on the ports or is clogged causing the spark to not ignite the gas.

Rey, You will want to check the oven safety valve for resistance. Check from either of the outer terminals to the center and there should be 216 ohms of resistance. If not then the issue will be the safety valve. If there is proper resistance then the issue will most likely be a faulty spark module.
