This spark electrode mounts at the bake burner and creates the ignition spark to light the oven flame. Replacing a worn or cracked electrode restores fast, reliable bake ignition and consistent oven temperatures.

  • Generates a high-voltage spark to ignite gas at the bake burner
  • Helps correct symptoms such as no heat on Bake, repeated clicking without ignition, or intermittent bake heating
  • Wear, contamination, cracks, or misalignment of the tip can prevent proper ignition
  • Restores dependable oven lighting and reduces delayed ignition
What's included: One bake burner spark electrode Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and shut off gas supply before servicing
  • Remove oven racks, oven bottom panel, and flame spreader to access the bake burner area
  • Note wire routing and electrode position; transfer any bracket as needed and secure the new electrode
  • Align the electrode tip close to the burner, then restore power and test ignition

For Whirlpool Bake Burner Spark Electrode (Part Number: OEM18042135)

Chris for Model Number kitchenaid KSS907SSS00

Our Oven Broil function isn't working properly. The electrical heating element works fine and comes up to temp quickly but the gas elements are both faulting. The gas definitely comes on, you can smell it. The igniters click and sometimes light off, Both top and bottom, sometimes only one. but then quickly extinguish during pre-heat, which can take a very long time. (I believe in most cases the only thing heating is the electric element in the oven.) Eventually the oven will come up to temp, but it struggles to hold it. I think because the gas isn't staying lit. But not entirely sure. Is this an igniter problem? Spark module problem? Or something else? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Chris, first, the oven door has to be closed as per the door switch during oven heating otherwise the control will stop oven heating after a minute. Next remove both the bake and burner tubes and lightly sand where the tubes secure to the chassis, snug the mounting screws, this is important as that is an electrical contact point for grounding the burner tubes. If problem still occurs replace the spark ignition wire harness , part WP9762904.

Ryan Misiolek for Model Number kgss907sss00

The kitchen aid oven/cooktop is about 10 years old, it has worked great so far. Now there seems to be a faint gas smell when the oven is used, however the oven still works as well as the broiler. No gas is smelled when the cooktop is used. Wether it is on bake or broil it smells of gas faintly, each time it ignites to heat through out the baking process. I have rubbed all the connections with soapy water and didn't see bubbles. When the burners are trying to ignite there are several clicks before successfully igniting, leading me to believe the ignitor is beginning to fail and at this time gas is being released during these failed ignition attempts. And since this occurs during the bake and broil process is it safe to say i should order a bake ignitor and not a broil ignitor?

Hello, Ryan. Remove both burners. Make sure the tips of the bake and broil igniters are clean and the igniters are properly mounted. Make sure the burners lighting holes are clean. If the bake burner has only four holes, then bake burner would need to be replaced. The part number for the bake burner wp9760228 Thank you.

Hello Ron, You should check the resistance of the oven temperature sensor WPW10131825. The oven sensor should have a resistance of 1090 ohms at 77 degrees and would add 2 ohms for every 1 degree of temperature increase. If this is good there is most likely a relay on the board WP9762774 that is failing.

Hello Stephen, You should check the wiring from the spark module to the ignitors and make sure there is ground present on both burners. The clicking indicates that the spark module is operating properly but the spark is not reaching the burners for ignition.

Rob for Model Number KGSK901SSS01

Intermittent heating (and broil) has started to occur on the KitchenAid KGSK901SSS01. Noticed a few weeks back that the oven failed to reach temperature. We don't use the broil feature all that much, but noticed this morning (for example during diagnosis) that the broil flame started but then extinguished after 10 seconds. The Elmnt-Brol #W10207402 had gotten hot to the touch and actually burned my finger tip abit. Question re: Elmnt-Brol: Does this element actually glow red/orange as a normal function or does it remain normally dark iron black and just heat up? When starting bake cycle (and broil cycle) from cold, the oven seems to operate as normal. Pressing bake button on front at 350 degrees for example, the fan initiates immediately, then the "tink" sound probably from the gas safety valve, then the "tick" "tick", "tick" "tick", "tick" "tick" sound of the ignitor, then flame. Same for broiler. But then somewhere in the cycle the flame extinguishes either for oven or broiler. Then starting and stopping, and then starting and stopping via the front buttons may coax the oven to heat all the way (at least that is what happened on two separate occaisions recently in the last 2 weeks or so). I tested the safety valve continuity/resistance on the three terminals. With wire disconnected, terminals 1+2 show ranged in the low 200 ohm range. With 2+3 terminals, I yielded similar metrics (e.g. 200 ohms). In looking at older threads for this model, it seems my results are within the expected 216 ohms + or - 30 ohm range? Given all of the above, can someone please help provide some perspective? Given that both broiler and oven are intermittent, and that my results of the safety valve solenoid were within range, it does not seem plausible to me that the safety valve solenoid nor the spark ignitors for broil and bake are to blame. But, does that then lead the issue to the spark module board as the problem? Or the temperature sensor? Or the main board?

1 Answer

Rob, With both the bake and broil doing the same thing, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty control board as opposed to the temperature sensor or the spark module. The fact that the spark module lights the unit would be an indication that it is not bad. For the sensor you can test it and it should have a resistance of 1090 ohms. The resistance ratings should be +/- 10% and that would be for the safety valve also. If this checks ok then the control board would be the issue.

Samuel for Model Number KGRS807SBT01

My stovetop works and the oven and broiler will both ignite and stay on for between 10 and 20 seconds. I can hear a faint click and then moments later it shuts off the gas. I tested the gas valve solenoids and they were in range but I still suspected that was the problem so I replaced it. Didn't work. I then knew it must be the spark module...wrong again. Must be the main panel...nope. Every time I get the same thing. I tested the high limit thermostat (9759242) and it seems fine. I also just removed it and jumped the wires since its working position is on (assuming I'm correct). I still get twenty seconds or so then it shuts off. My wife is ready to kill me for being too persistent while I figure that the pie maker in my kitchen can't possibly contain enough parts to keep me from replacing them all. I can call a tech and probably should have in the first place but I can't stop now. Does this thing have a flame sensor or thermocoupler that would shut it down after 20 seconds? Thanks in advance for any help.

1 Answer

Hello Samuel. It sounds as if the relay board WP9762774 may be failing in the unit and causing the issue you are having with the unit. Make sure the neutrals and grounds are good on the unit as well.

Hello Rachel, You should check the wiring to the broil ignitor. If it is still sparking, the burner will be the most likely suspect. I would list part numbers for you but since the model number you provided was partial and pulled up ten different models, I do not want to give you an incorrect part number for your model. You can call in at 1-877-477-7278 and we can look it up for you or you can re-post with the complete model number.

Hello Steve, You would want to test the gas valves and check to make sure that ignitor is in proper position in line with gas. The safety valve you would want to do an ohm reading from bake to common and from broil to common. The common is center terminal on valve. The resistance reading should be 216 ohms. If not within range then it would be a bad valve. The ignitor should draw 3.2 to 3.6 amps and if not positioned properly will not allow the gas to ignite. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
