This replacement part is a control board for an ice maker. Control boards serve as the main computer that controls the functions of the ice machine. Before installing this part, unplug the ice maker and pull it away from the wall. Then unthread screws of the access cover to the control panel. Use a putty knife to pry the cover off and proceed to remove the screws securing the top panel. Use a nut driver to remove the rear panel. Lift the top panel up and have someone hold it upright. Remove the screws that hold the control housing on the top panel. Once control housing has been released, remove the screws securing the grounding wire to set the panel aside. Then with a Phillips head screwdriver, unthread the screws that hold the control board. Depress the tab to release the board. Note the orientation of the wire connectors and disconnect them from the board. Re-secure the wire connectors to their correct terminals and pop the new control board back in place. Reinstall the panels that were removed. This genuine replacement part is a control board compatible with Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Sears/Kenmore brand ice machines.

Jennifer, You should be getting 120 vac to the circulation pump when it should be running. Make sure the water level wires are not damaged. A simple tug test at the harness connector will show this.

ISSUE: 1. Not making full thickness slabs of ice. 2. The slabs of ice are 1/2 as thick as they should be. 3. After one harvest the ice maker goes into clean mode what I tried: 1. cleaned using nisafe ice maker cleaner through the ice maker. same results. 2. replaced control board WP 2304016 3. ice still 1/2 the thickness it should be 4. after 3 harvests the ice machine goes into clean mode. what are recommendations: could I have a bad board ? sincerely randy Q

1 Answer

Randy, There is a ice control thermistor located on the bottom of the evaporator assembly that would be the most likely cause with the unit. The part number will be WPW10683580.

John, You will want to check to make sure that the thermistors in the unit are not faulty but sounds likely that the control board will be the issue with the unit.

I replaced the valve, but when I did I didn't put one of the tubes in far enough, so when I turned on the water, it squirted out and may have gone into the electrical connections. Water still flows into the bin continuously. I thought I might still have a bad valve, so I replaced it again. The water still flows constantly unless it's turned off at the source. I've been filling the bin then turning off the water at the source and it makes ice just fine. Problem is that the machine only makes ice when I'm here to turn the water source on and off. Is it possible that when I replaced the valve the first time, water went into the connections and caused a short with the control board or some other electronic component? Could this cause the valve to not close? Thanks

1 Answer

Hello David, It is possible that water could have gotten into the control on select models but, for a proper diagnosis, we would need you to please verify the model number from the units' I.D. tag since it will not come up for us as a valid model number. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Hello Gabriel. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Compressor not coming on. Everything else is working fine that I can see. Compressor not getting power. Checked resistance on bin and evaporator and grid thermisters and I have resistance in each one. I jumped the compressor straight from electrical outlet and compressor came on. With the unit on and the compressor running, it's making ice again. Overload and relay are ok. Compressor just not getting power. Can it be the pc board? Ice maker model#GI1500xhs6

1 Answer

Hello Mike. It should do this for a little while and then go into a cycle. If not, then it sounds like the board is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.
