The Float Switch Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It includes the float and the switch mechanism that monitors and controls the water level inside the dishwasher. The float switch ensures that the dishwasher does not overfill by signaling the water inlet valve to shut off the water supply once the appropriate level is reached.

Causes of a bad float switch can include debris or mineral buildup, wear and tear over time, or electrical failures within the switch mechanism. A malfunctioning float switch can lead to water overfilling, which may cause leaks and inefficient washing performance.

Symptoms of a bad float switch kit include:

  • Dishwasher overfilling with water
  • Water leaks during operation
  • Dishwasher not filling with enough water
  • Error codes related to water levels

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Winston for Model Number KUDA230YWH2

Kitchenaid dishwasher drips through float assembly. The float moves freely, and underneath the machine I could see the stem moving up and down, activating the switch. I removed the assembly, found a very small amount of material in and around the components. I cleaned it thoroughly and tested the switch with an ohmmeter. It showed 3.5 ohms in the float down position and infinite in the up position. After replacing everything (tightly), the leak is much greater. Float mechanism seems to be working. Should I replace the intake valve?

Winston, It sounds like the unit may be overfilling in which the issue would most commonly be the float switch. It is possible that the water valve is not closing off all the way and causing the overfill issue. Also make sure that the unit is level as this could also cause the issue. Check the spray arms to make sure that they are not clogged or cracked causing a wave effect that would cause water to drip out.

Hello Gino. Check and see if the unit is overfilling. If so, and the float is good, you will need to order and replace the valve on the unit. If it is not overfilling, you will need to check and see if the door gasket is bad and needs to be replaced on the unit.

Hello Tony, You will want to check your drain to make sure that there is nothing clogging the pump. Sounds like this may be the issue, also check the drain hose to make sure that it is not clogged.

Dalon H. for Model Number Sears Kenmore Elite Dishwasher

My dishwasher was leaking at part number 8545880. When I removed the part I found that it was gummed up with food residue. I cleaned the part and the area around the opening for the part. I visually inspected the part and found no cracks in the part or tears in the rubber seal washer. I put the part back together in the dishwasher. There is a cap that sits on top of the tube inside the dishwasher with a long stem that goes through the part to activate the switch. When I took the cap off I had to pull and it made a popping sound when it came off. When I put it back on it now sits freely. Is the cap supposed to free float or should it click when it goes back on? I don't want water to run down the tube.

Hi Dalon. There is a float switch part # 8193506. The float assy. is part # WPW10077871. If the float is not smooth on the stem, it will catch and not ride up and down easily. Thank You.

Hi Toni. The switch controls the voltage that turns on/off the water valve. When the door is closed and wash is pressed, then the float switch will have power untill it raises the float level to stop the water right at the bottom of the heating element. The drain hose has to be installed with a loop at the highest point under the sink. Then taught into the drain port. You might have the drain hose kinked holding the drain water back. At The out put of the drain pump there usually is a check valve. This part # is WP8268375. The Float switch is part # [AP3038166]. Thank you.
