Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dishwasher Float Assembly (Part Number: OEM18024603)

1 Answer

Pat, the float assembly is a safety feature that will shut off the water valve if there is an excessive amount of water entering the tub. There is nothing to it other than a float and a micro switch. Any sticky substance would be a food build-up and not something coming from a part.

Angie for Model Number 6651674193

My dishwasher is leaking from the hole at the bottom of the tub where the bottom point of the float assembly stem comes through the floor of the tub to activate the float switch. The Sears website shows p/n WP3376397 with no black washer over the float stem. Your website shows a black washer over the float stem. Another customer asked about purchasing the black washer only. The old float I removed from the dishwasher did not have a black washer on it. Does the washer serve some purpose to prevent leaks from the bottom of the tub through the float hole? Could there have been a black washer on my float from the factory, and may it have deteriorated over the years and be at the bottom of the tube that the float assembly fits into? There seems to be something down at the bottom of the float tube but as the dishwasher is installed in a corner of the cabinet, I am unable to approach from the right in order to get a better look down the tube. Everyone with the same problem seems to be getting the same answer about soap suds causing the water level to be too high, but I've been using the same soap for years and my washer only recently began leaking through the float hole at the bottom of the tub. Thank you.

Angie, You may want to check the water level in the dishwasher and make sure that it is not filling too high. This could also cause the issue. The water should be just below the heater. Also try running a cycle with nothing in it to kind of clean any soap residue that may be in the unit. It does appear that there should be a seal for the float and if you do not see it then it would most likely be gone and need a new one in which you would need to replace the float for this.

Hello Anthony, This can be caused by any of the following as per the manufacturer: Loose harness connection in the motor circuit, a partial clog in the drain hose, drain check valve not sealing AND customer disposer/waste line partially or fully plugged, or faulty motor drive circuit in control board WPW10039780.

Frustrated for Model Number DU920PFGB1

Model DU920PFGB1. Sent in a question to your site 10/2015 for water leaking down on float switch flap and was sent an answer to check the spray arms on the unit for cracks or damage, or clogging. I checked the arms and found no cracks, clogging, or any damage. Unit still drips down from float assy. onto float switch flap. Recently replaced water inlet valve, float assy., and float switch but still leaked. I'm at a loss to stop this problem. I called your help line and was told that it might be the door gasket and I tried to tell the person that I saw the water coming down the float assy. onto the float switch but all I went away with was I need to replace the door gasket. I don't want to put more and more money into this unit by replacing lots of different parts but I would like to stop the leaking. Please can your repair people help me out? Frustrated!

The only other thing it could be is using to much soap in the unit. This causes suds which will cause the float to leak on the unit. If your using tablets and using some form of rinse aid in the dispenser, it will cause to much suds in the unit.

Frustrated for Model Number DU920PFGB1

I have a Whirlpool model DU920PFGB dishwasher. My problem is dripping water onto float switch flap. Replaced water inlet valve, float assy. and float switch. Checked for level both ways also. I seem to get water dripping down from where float assy. makes contact with float switch flap. Drips around 20 to 30 times during a cycle and is very irritating. It appears that water comes down shaft where float assy. is located. We are using tablets and have used them always. Am I missing something? Any help would be very appreciated.

Frustrated, Check the spray arms to make sure that there is no clogging, cracks or damage to the spray arm. If this is the case it will cause the unit to have a rippling effect which could cause the issue that you are having.

Hello Bob, We do not have a picture but all you have to do is drop the float into the opening from the top and after removal of the kickpanel, twist the nut on as far as the old one was on the old float shaft.

John, Check and make sure the dishwasher is level in both directions(front to back, and side to side). Remove the lower spray arm WP8268874 and check the openings and the arm seams for obstructions and cracked seams along the edge of the arm. A split seam or obstruction can cause water to spray at the bottom of the tub and under the door. Also check the bearings WP719576 and WP3376846 for excess wear or tear, there should be a little "wobble" in the spray arm, but not like what you're describing.

Hello James. Yes, you install it under the unit and it can be done from the front. The new float comes with the nut already on it. It does not need to be removed.

Hello Mindy. You just slide the float back into the slot and then the nut 717488 keeps it from coming back out. It must have the nut installed onto the float.
