Hello John. It sounds like the gasket is not installed properly. Remove the screws and pull the old gasket off. The new gasket will press into the door liner. With the installation, you will have to screw in the corners first and do every other screw on each side to tighten. It may be best to soak the new gasket in warm water to help take its shape/form You may need to use a hair dryer to form the seal, be careful not to melt it. Hope this helps, thanks!

Tara, Yes you may want to try "flipping" the gasket and reinstalling it after a long soak in a tub of hot water. Once you have it installed again, you may want to apply a thin coat of "vaseline" to the hinge side of the gasket, wash the metal face flange with warm soapy water rinse and dry it, and apply a thin coat on the hinge side of the face flange as well.
