Causes of a bad icemaker can include wear and tear from regular use, mineral buildup from hard water, and electrical issues that affect the ice production cycle.

Symptoms of a bad icemaker include:

  • No ice production or slow ice-making
  • Ice cubes that are irregularly shaped or smaller than usual
  • Leaks or water pooling in the ice maker area
  • Unusual noises during the ice-making process

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Our less than 2 year old icemaker has stopped making ice. A while back it was making a lot of noise, but returned to normal later. It has been erratic, sometimes making very little ice and doing well at other times. It has now stopped making ice altogether. The water supply is fine with no obstructions. While checking the bottom of the icemaker I got a nasty burn, so I concluded that the heater must have been stuck in the on position. I have removed the unit and found the tray about half full and the "ejector blades" firmly frozen in the ice and pointing straight down. This has to be wrong. The dial that controls the "ejector blades" must have a specific starting position, but I find that I can insert the knob into any location on the gear. What is the correct position and how do I check to determine if the motor is shot or if there is another issue?

Hello Skip, The ice maker should not make a lot of noise. This leads me to the assumption that the ice maker 1129316 is at fault.

Hello Erin, the manufacturer doesn't offer a add on kit for this unit as it came with a icemaker directly from the manufacturer. You can purchase a replacement icemaker part number 4317943. Thanks!

Xab for Model Number Whirlpool model ET1FTKXKQ02. MFG date 02-03

My parents have a Whirlpool model ET1FTKXKQ02 that did not come with an ice maker. I would like to get them an icemaker and install it in this fridge/ freezer. It has freezer on top fridge on bottom. It has no fancy door stuff for ice or water it's pretty much a plain fridge freezer. It has a spot in the back top left of the freezer that has a cover on it. What model ice maker would fit in this freezer. All I can find is replacement kits but I need a complete kit.

Greg for Model Number KitchenAid KTRS22KHWH00

My ice maker drips slightly when making ice. I hear the solenoid opening/closing normally but as it makes ice, water drips in with the cubes very slowly and continuously. I have to believe the water is dripping past the valve, but I'm not sure as the ice cubes are full size. Would you recommend replacing the valve first and if so what part number? (It was manufactured in 08/99 and have the ice maker water shut off for over a year and bar raised on the maker so it hasn't been running dry). Thanks, Greg

1 Answer

Hello Greg, I would check the water pressure to the unit first. The reason is that the water valve has no springs inside it to close it. It is closed by water pressure alone. A lack of sufficient water pressure will cause the valve to close slowly and sometimes never close all of the way at all. If you remove the water line from the back of the unit and find good pressure, the next step is to replace the water valve 4318046. If you want to save some money, you could go ahead and order the ice maker kit 1129316 which also includes the water valve. This should take care of it for you.

Actually folks, you didn't read my entire previous question. If you had, you would have answered my question about the lack of 2 sepearate leads at the right rear bottom of the unit, where the water valve would go. There are no extra leads to which I would connect the water valve you provided in the kit. You should scrutinize the questions sent to you better as to not waste undue time. I did as you asked with the wire harnes and disconnected the one that came on the ice maker. When I did so, I took another look at the exisitng harness inside the freezer and noticed an additional plug (adapter) hooked to the end of the harness. When I removed that adapter, it revealed the correct connector that would indeed fit the small harness that came attached to the ice maker. So, that then is no problem. I have only the water valve problem to solve and I can get to work installing the ice maker.

Thank You Lee for your response. It seems as if your model # came equipped with the adapter plug used in that particular series of you model and similar ones like yours. The manufacture used a certain water valve then that its terminals needed this said adapter. Thank You .

Lee for Model Number ktrs20kawh10

I've received my kit for the above model refridgerator. There is however, a few small problems. The manufacture date on my kitchenaide is 08-94. It been pre-wired and made ready for an ice maker kit. The kit that came will not work for two reasons. The main plug in the back of my unit is square, where the wire harnes on the ice make you sent is round on one side and square on the other. Both connectors have four pins. Yours has a brwon, green, black, and wihte wire. Mine has 2 grean in one pin, 2 white wires in one pin, 1 black, and 1 brown wire. The connector in mine is square. Additioanlly, when I observe the back of the unit and dropped the cover. I though I would see a couple of extra, single pin connectors for the water valve. There are none. I searched everywhere on that side where the fan is, there are no extra leads to hook anything up. So, I'm sure I'll be having to send this back. Regards, Lee

Hi Lee. All you should need to do is to use the correct wiring harness for your ice maker. You can unhook it from the ice maker itself by releasing the single center clip on the side of the ice maker. This is a universal kit to adapt for your model given. Ice maker kit part # 1129316. Thank You.
