For Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker Kit (Part Number: OEM17066592)

Don for Model Number MN: AFI2538AES3. SN: KY0439372

I am helping my brother-in-law with an ice maker that will not eject ice cubes from the tray (heater not thawing frozen cubes so they will slide out). We ordered ice maker kit W10583817/AP5688861 from you, but the wiring harness that comes out of the auger assembly in the back of the ice maker is a continuous harness from the rear all the way to the front with no connector that can be undone to plug in the six wire harness from the new ice maker. I have photos, but I don’t see a way to attach them. Full Model and Serial Number added

YW, Based on the model number I would recommend checking to make sure the freezer temperature at the ice maker is below 8°F. Then check the ice maker water valve to see that it has water through it when called for. Then check the fill tube to make sure the line is not frozen up.

My icemaker stopped making ice. We've never had problems before, but two days before I noticed that Ihad no ice (I don't know if it made ice in those two days) there was a local power outage that lasted about 4 hours. Is there a reset button? I changed the water filter and I've tried turning it on/off but there is still no ice. I've run through the codes that you suggested below, but I am not sure what I'm looking for. Front water works fine. Any suggestions before I just order a part?

Cole E. for Model Number MFI2568AES

The icemaker would not eject so cleaned coils underneath the refrigerator, removed the icemaker and let it thaw out. After reinstalling, it filled with water which did freeze but again never kicked them out. I purchased the replacement and installed and the same thing happened: fills with water, water freezes, but nothing after that. Any recommendations on what to try next? Also, my W10583817 purchased here did not come with any install instructions, should it have? Thanks

Hello Cole, You should put a freezer thermometer in the freezer compartment beside the icemaker. The water will freeze at about 32°F, but the icemaker will not cycle until it achieves about 20°F. The problem may be that the freezer compartment is not getting cold enough to cycle the icemaker.

Kevin, I believe the wrong part was shipped, you ordered the assembly not just the ice maker. If you will call into one of our customer service representatives they will get this handled and the right part on the way. 877-477-7278

Rocky for Model Number MFI2568AES

I ordered and received an ice maker from Amazon (Whirlpool W10583817 Ice Maker Assembly) which is supposed to fit my refrigerator. MAYTAG MFI2568AES. The ice maker was physically the same, but the wiring was totally different. My refrigerator is about 12 years old. Was there a design change that affected the ice maker wiring. My ice maker has a single harness that plugs into a pigtail from the assembly. The new ice maker came with way more wires and connectors. Appreciate any advice or guidance. I would hate to replace a working refrigerator just to get ice.

1 Answer

Rocky, That part is the correct replacement part for your unit. We can send you installation instructions that should have came with the part.

Rocky, The left door on the refrigerator section must be shut or light switch depressed because power goes through the light switch to the ice maker. There were some instances where the liner of the door would become deformed and not touch the light switch when door is closed. Make sure that's not happened to your unit. Another option is in test mode. You cann force the fan in the ice box area to function to make sure it is working. You can also test the ice box thermister. We will send you a service sheet and you will need to enter the service test mode on page 4. Then tests that you will run are numbers 113, 145, 151, 192, If the temp is to warm the ice maker will not cycle. You can also test at the water valve for 120Vac when the ice maker cycles. No voltage and the ice maker needs replaced.

Kurt for Model Number AFI2538AES

I replaced the water inlet valve/solenoid about 6 months ago when we couldn’t get water or ice. Your part worked perfectly by the way. Now I have a flooded wood floor after water poured out of the ice maker area and onto the floor. Would this require a replacement ice maker or another inlet valve or both? Also, can I leave the water supply turned on if I have the ice maker switched to off to avoid more leaks while still getting water through the door?

1 Answer

Kurt, Yes you could leave water supply on as long as water is not still leaking. This issue would most likely be caused by the icemaker if you were able to get the water to shut off.
