The Icemaker Kit is an OEM part compatible with Whirlpool refrigerators. The icemaker kit includes all of the components necessary to produce ice within the freezer. It is designed to fit within the refrigerator's ice maker assembly and functions by filling modular ice trays with water which then freeze into individual ice cubes.

Symptoms of a bad icemaker kit include:

  • Icemaker not producing ice at all or producing an insufficient amount
  • Ice cubes joining together or being malformed
  • Drips or leaks from the icemaker area
  • Louder than normal noises emanating from the icemaker

Causes of failure can include damage or wear to internal components over multiple fill and freeze cycles. Regular mineral buildup from water can also cause issues.

This OEM replacement is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Michael, Yes, your best bet is to replace the ice maker assembly. There is some "play" in the rotating ejectors, But not as much as you're describing. The excess movement in the ejector, would indicate a problem in the motor/linkage of the control head, and/or a problem in the mold and heater assembly, causing excess force needed to eject the cubes.

Ice maker stopped working. Found white grains of something in the bin. The 2 cogs in the front which I believe turn the ice discharge are in perfect condition. The auger turns fine when selected. In the far back of the ice maker where I believe the water is added to the maker was a frozen bock of ice right to the top of the compartment. Is there another set of white cogs that could have stripped and ended up in the bin other from the ice maker itself? I thawed out the block and waiting to see if anything happens. I don't want to buy the ice maker and find out it was another part that failed. Thanks

Tom, With the fill cup being clogged with ice then this issue would most likely be a faulty water valve allowing water to seep into the icemaker. The other thing to check is with the ice bin to make sure that the ice bin is not damaged in any way.

OK I ask the question earlier about the wire colors on the ice maker harness and the picture of the harness in your parts shows a purple wire running into the plug that goes onto the silenoid and and for the other side of the plug it has a white wire coming from the harness going into the other side with a short wire coming out of the same side of the plug but on my harness the white wire is sliced into and runs to the silenoid plug on 1 side and the pink wire running to the other which both sides of the plug have a little short wire coming from them that connect to each side of the auger motor and also a green/yellow wire coming from the harness that is spliced and running to the auger motor is this right and if not hoe can i fix this because 1 of the harnesses yall are out of stock for and the other is dicontinued from factory !

1 Answer

Hello Jeff. Yes, purple is violet and the whites are spliced together and so are the green/yellow wires. We have no control over a part being discontinued. You will need to contact the manufacturer in that case.

Hello D.J., If the icemaker will not cycle on its' own with water in it, the issue is most likely the icemaker assembly W10583817.

Hello Jeffery. No, it shouldn't be the tab. You will need to check the auger motor and see if it has power and if it is running.

Whirlpool/maytag ice maker. Looking at the diagram it appears to be the front 2/3 of the ice maker assembly. Mine is not making ice, don't know why. Could be the auger/motor/fan on the back end. IS THAT INCLUDED. Instructions seem to say to attach "ice maker" to old auger/motor etc BUT maybe that's what doesn't work. Are there two parts I need to buy? Dispensing arm is stuck (even after defrost) in the up position so can't tell if water flows or not.

1 Answer

Jeff, If the icemaker is not making ice then it would just be the icemaker that would need to be replaced. The auger and motor assembly would not be with the icemaker and would not cause the no ice issue.
