The Lid Latch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It ensures that the washer lid is securely locked during operation, preventing it from being opened mid-cycle, which could cause water spills and interrupt the washing process. This component plays a vital role in the safety and functionality of the washing machine by ensuring that the lid remains closed during washing and spinning cycles.

Causes of a bad lid latch assembly can include regular wear and tear, electrical failures, or physical damage from forcefully opening or closing the lid. When the lid latch assembly is faulty, it can affect the washer's ability to start or complete a cycle properly.

Symptoms of a bad Lid Latch Assembly include:

  • The washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to lid lock issues
  • The lid not locking or unlocking properly
  • The washer pausing unexpectedly during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Lid Latch Assembly (Part Number: OEM15789930)

1 Answer

Sam, The door lock would be a possible cause for this issue. You will want to get the tech sheet from the control panel and put the unit into a diagnostic cycle and see if there are any error codes stored. This will show what direction to go with repair if there is an error code.

Dan for Model Number Whirlpool WTW555OXWO

I have a Whirlpool washer WTW555OXWO about 5 years old. The washer cycle starts properly with the lid lock light coming on after a short blink and the lid locks. Then the sensor cycle comes on with a louder humming sound than before, and the lid lock light starts blinking continuously. It gets stuck in the sensor cycle until I unplug power and plug back, and sometimes I press pause and restart before the lid lock light stays on and then the rest of the wash cycle proceeds. And sometimes in the middle of the wash cycle, the lid lock light starts blinking again, and I need to unplug and plug in power to finish the cycle. Is this a lid lock assembly problem that needs replacement, or a bigger control board problem? Thanks.

Allen for Model Number MVWX500XW0

You folks sent me a replacement lid switch (amazingly fast--thanks) that I installed but it still won't agitate or spin. The lid lock light comes on, goes out and, the lid locks and unlocks. It locks when I press start, then goes off/unlocks" before it begins to fill with water. It will lock again if a press pause and start. In fact, it stays on for a few minutes (flashing if I recall correctly) after I turn the power off. I found the technician's manual inside the machine, and I suspect that I need a new main control board. Any other thoughts?

Allen, Based on the information that you provided it does sound like this issue will be caused by a faulty main control board.

Hello Confussed. No, this would be either the transmission or a bad belt on the unit.

Sonja, The door strike is the part that fits into the lid latch and should not need to be replaced when replacing the lid latch. If you need the strike it is part number WPW10240513.
