The Door Switch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This assembly detects whether the washer door is open or closed, allowing the machine to start or stop the washing cycle accordingly.

Causes of a bad door switch assembly can include wear and tear from frequent use, damage from forceful closing of the door, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning switch can prevent the washer from recognizing a closed door, thus hindering the start of the wash cycle or causing it to stop unexpectedly.

Symptoms of a bad Door Switch Assembly include:

  • Washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes indicating door issues
  • Washer not spinning or agitating
  • Door lock mechanism not engaging or disengaging properly

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Door Switch Assembly (Part Number: OEM18035460)

Just ordered and replaced the door switch assembly (AP3837611). Took 10 minutes from opening the box to start of clean up. It appears that the only thing wrong with my old unit is the plastic piece that protrudes through the washer wall and depresses when you shut the door. It also resets the lock when you open the door. I was able to manually reset the lock until the replacement came in but this cheap plastic piece is all that needs to be replaced. I'd like to know if there is a way to get that piece so I can keep it as a back up. BTW...ordered the part on a Monday and had it waiting for me when I got home from work on Tuesday!!! Awesome...saved me $30.

Hello Charlene. The door strike is mounted to the door assembly and goes into the switch assembly. You just check and make sure it is not broke or loose on your model.

Denny for Model Number GHW9150PW0

I have a Whirlpool Duet. I had to repair wiring many years ago, due to previous whirlpool repair man fixing something while machine under warranty & not being careful when putting back together & wire got pinched & cut over time. Worked for many years without problem. Started getting f dl code or dr code & after it would click several times after I tried to start the wash. I took out lock & checked to see if anything broke & was told to lub it with some silicone spray & worked Ok after that. Then from time to time it would click instead of locking & someone had mentioned that slightly tapping the control unit in the back of machine may help. I did this & most of the time the door will lock & I will have no problems for a while until it does it again. How do I know which thing is bad, wiring I had to resplice due to repair man, door latch or hopefully not the costly control unit? Thank you for any detailed instruction.

Hello Denny. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the door switch assembly WP8182634 is the issue and not the control board in the unit.

Hello Ghassan. There is no need to remove the front panel. You will open the door and remove the spring clamp around the door boot. Then remove the side of the boot from the panel and access the lock assembly. Remove the screws and pull the assembly toward the hole and unplug the wires going to it. Install the new lock assembly [AP3837611 in reverse order.

Hello George. You will need to check and see if the door catch is broke or if the door switch assembly WP8182634 is broke. If you close the door, and it does not latch, and the door catch is not broke, you will need to replace the door switch assembly. If the door closes, but does not lock, check and make sure all the wires and connections on the latch and the board are good on the unit. If there are no bad wires on the unit, test the two pink wires coming to the assembly for voltage. If it is there, replace the switch. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Bob. This model is notorious for bad connections. I would try removing the main top and disconnecting all of the electrical connections one at a time and reconnecting them.If this doesn't work, I would suspect the user interface first and the main control second. I hope this was helpful! Good luck!
