The Door Switch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This assembly detects whether the washer door is open or closed, allowing the machine to start or stop the washing cycle accordingly.

Causes of a bad door switch assembly can include wear and tear from frequent use, damage from forceful closing of the door, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning switch can prevent the washer from recognizing a closed door, thus hindering the start of the wash cycle or causing it to stop unexpectedly.

Symptoms of a bad Door Switch Assembly include:

  • Washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes indicating door issues
  • Washer not spinning or agitating
  • Door lock mechanism not engaging or disengaging properly

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hi Dennis. Remove power. Use a small screwdriver to release the lower spring on the steel band under the outer boot lip. Open the door. Roll the outer boot lip up at the 6:00 position to reveal the spring. Unroll the spring and the band assy. Use a torx-20 screwdriver to remove the outer door latch screws. Roll the tub boot into the inner basket halfway. This will give you side access to replace the door latch part # WP8182634 from here. Make sure the electrical connectors are tight. Thank You.

Hello Sudhir. Open the door on the washer and remove the metal band holding the door boot on the washer. Pull back the side of the boot where the latch is located. Remove the screws securing the old latch to the front panel and reach in the hole and unplug the wires from the latch assembly. Then install the new latch WP8182634 in reverse order. Hope this helps.

Hi Joane. By your explanation, it does sound like the door latch will be the issue. Part # WP8182634. If the door striker is damaged or not "floating" in position then it is part # WP8181651. Is it giving a fault code of F-DU or F- DL ? There is a tech sheet folded up ion a packet in the cabinet so you can put the unit in a diagnostic mode to assist. you. Are you getting any more fault codes ? Thank You.

Robert for Model Number GHW9400PW0

Duet clothes washer--I have replaced the door latch locking assembly and the machine started perfectly and ran through the cycle til completion. Took out load and reloaded and door locking assembly didn't have the loud click of locking and the DL code came on again. Could the door be sagging alittle and broke the new assembly again or is something overheating and not allowing enough voltage until it cools down?? When I replaced the assmbly and turned it on it sounded real loud and crisp and locked perfectly. Could the contacts in the control panel be burnt or worn out???

1 Answer

Robert, Yes, you want to check and make sure the door is aligned to the opening properly, and also make sure the door strike WP8181651 on the door is properly aligned and enterring the latch oprning with no resistance. I would not expect the new latch assembly to overheat or be broken at this time but you do need to check both the latch assembly and the CCU wires and connections. Thanks and Good Luck

Hi Joe. If the door latch is acting this way then you need to replace with the new latch part # WP8182634. However if the door lever (strike) is not floating between the 2- mount screws, then the door will not latch also. Door lever part # WP34001260. The most common repair is to replace these parts and make sure your unit is level front to back and side to side. Lock the nuts on the legs up against the base tight to keep level. Keep the floor clean so the foot pads can grip the floor and not walk around. Thank You.
