Blender won't blend or makes grinding noise? A worn drive coupler is often the cause. This motor-to-blade connector takes 5-10 minutes to replace.

Handiman, You could try a mild cleaner to try to get this off the blade and housing or try to scrap it off. You could also try something like goo gone to see if it will take it off.

Gregory for Model Number KSB5BU3

Hello, I have a Kitchen Aid blender and while I was blending a smoothie the drive coupler shattered. I watched the remove/install video on your website and the technician is shown hitting the coupler with a hammer/screw driver to loosen and remove the coupler. My problem is the coupler spins freely in both directions so hitting it in one direction with a screw driver / hammer combination is not going to work. 1. If the coupler spins in both directions does that mean I have more problems than just a busted coupler? If so, what additional parts do I need to order to repair my blender? 2. Can you provide directions in your video on how to remove the coupler assembly if it spins in both directions? Thank you Gregory

Gregory, The screwdriver and hammer usually does the trick, you need to hold the screwdriver at a pretty low angle so you're not driving down on the coupler and remember it has reversed threads. Another approach, but you have to be careful, slip a large flat blade screwdriver between the bottom of the coupler and the top case of the blender. Turn the screwdriver handle so the coupler turns clockwise. The upwards pressure will usually "jam" the armature enough to allow the coupler to turn and "break" loose from the shaft. The last option, set the blender on a towel on it's side, remove the feet from the bottom panel and remove the four screws under the feet, remove the base plate, and use a screwdriver or pair of needle nose pliers to hold the armature still and turn the coupler clockwise. But again you have to be careful, you don't want to damage the armature.
