The Spark Module is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool ranges. It is an electrical component that generates the spark needed to ignite the gas burners. By sparking consistently and reliably, the module allows the cooktop burners to ignite with each use.

Causes of a bad spark module can include normal wear and tear over time, exposure to moisture or residue, or issues with the electronic components that produce the spark.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners that will not ignite or light consistently
  • Burners that ignite but then immediately go out
  • Only some of the burners lighting while others do not
  • A clicking sound coming from the ignitors but no visible spark

Note: For harness from spark module to igniters use part number 9756892.

This OEM Whirlpool replacement spark module is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Tom! The spark module WPW10331686 will come with step by step instructions regarding the installation of this part. Here is the information off the installation sheet: 1. Unplug range or disconnect power. 2. A red wire used with the original electronic board will need to be removed and taped off. This red wire is not required when installing the replacement board. See Figure 1. 3. A jumper located at the power cord connection must also be removed. (This connection is located at the right rear area of the storage drawer/warming drawer compartment). See Figure 2. NOTE: On ranges with a warming drawer the rear screws on the RIGHT SIDE panel will have to be removed to gain access to the 120V connector plug and transformer wiring connector. Once the jumper is removed, reconnect the power cord connection. See Figure 3 and 4. **Please not the figures are only available with the tech installation sheet. Hope this information helps you determine if you can repair your unit. Thanks!

Al for Model Number GS563LXSS

I checked for voltage with oven not set to start and I had no voltage. When I start oven I get voltage then it slowly goes down to zero. I ordered and replaced spark module AP3672576 and it still does the same with no voltage until I start oven. My problem is the broiler ignitor sparks but the oven ignitor does not. Niether the oven or broiler will light. I already replaced oven ignitor as well. Is there suppose to be at least 9 vDC all the time even with oven off?

1 Answer

Hello Al. No, there should not be voltage when the oven is off, only voltage when on. You will need to look for a broken wire. If the wire is good coming to the igniter, you will need to replace the EOC WPW10116542. Hope this helps.

Hello Chris. If your having trouble with it sparking, more than likely you have a bad spark module. These take a special very high voltage meter for testing. Hope this helps.

Hello Calvin. You can test at the gas valve. You should have atleast 9 volts dc across the red and orange wires. If you have this voltage, then you have a bad gas valve. If the voltage is not there, you either have a bad spark module or broke wire. Hope this helps.
