The LED Light Module Kit is an OEM part compatible with Whirlpool refrigerators and freezers. The kit contains 12 LED lights to replace all LEDs within the refrigerator. Within the interior cavity, this module evenly illuminates the compartment to visually check contents. LED technology provides a cool, energy-efficient light source.

Causes of a bad light module can include failure of individual LED bulbs over time, wires detaching from the circuit board, or damage from moisture intrusion.

Symptoms of a bad LED light module include:

  • Dim, flickering, or completely non-functional lighting
  • Hot spots or sections of the module not illuminating
  • Audible buzzing or humming from internal electronics

This replacement is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Jan for Model Number WRF767SDHZ00

Unit is 18 months old. About 3 months ago the freezer led light(s) stopped working. Today the top 5 led lights in the refrigerator section flickered and then stopped working. The remaining 4 led lights located on the sides of the refrigerator section are currently working.???? Does each led light unit need to be replaced- thought they had a much longer lived than 18 months!! Does the failure of freezer lights and now some of the refrigerator lights speak to a bigger problem? Thank you

1 Answer

Jan, it is likely that the failed freezer light W11683243 is causing this issue. A way it can be verified would be to tape the freezer door switch down, remove the light, and use a small wire to jump the connection after removing the light. Once this is done, open the refrigerator door to identify if the lights work properly. If the refrigerator lights work properly, the freezer light shorted out and would need to be replaced.

Don for Model Number WRX986IHZ00

Hello, I have a Whirlpool refrigerator model # WRX986SIHZ00 S/N K74311704, I am trying to figure out what part(s) might be causing the following (2) lighting issues. (1) When either refrigerator door is opened the (5) upper LED lights come on bright for a second then go dim with only one of the LED segments remaining on. All of the side lights come on normally. (2) Also from time to time when either of the doors is opened none of the lights come on. The only way to get them to come back on is to unplug the power to the refrigerator wait a few seconds then plug it back in. This seems to reset the unit getting it back to the problem discussed in problem # 1. Can you please let me know what parts control the LED lights and if there are separate controls for the upper & side lights? Thanks Don

1 Answer

Don, it is recommended that the freezer light W11683243 is inspected to identify if it comes on or not. If it does not come on, it has shorted and is causing the rest of the lights to act up.

Steve for Model Number MFT2976AEM03

The top two left ceiling LED lights in the refrigerator cabinet remain bright when either refrigerator cabinet door is opened. The top three right ceiling lights and both LED lights on both left and right side walls of the refrigerator cabinet are initially bright for approximately 2 seconds before all 7 LED modules will strobe brightly in unison at approximately 2 cycles per second. The 7 LEDS began to strobe at the same door opening event. The freezer cabinet LED light does not light when the freezer cabinet door is opened. I note in R-114 Job Aid publication )ladder diagram pages 6-5 and 6-14) that the power to the two left ceiling LEDS are fed by pins 1 & 2 from the LED driver board, The two left and two right side wall LEDs are fed by pins 3 & 4 from the driver board, and the three right ceiling LEDS and the freezer LED are fed by pins 5 & 6 from the LED driver board. Would these symptoms indicate a failing 120AC/14VDC power supply feeding the driver board as the two LEDs circuit (pins 1 & 2) are still providing enough voltage/current to operate correctly, while the four LEDs circuit voltage/current draw results in strobing? The ladder diagram indicates these 3 LED groups are each powered as a series circuit? Have you encountered this issue? What trouble-shooting suggestions would you suggest?

1 Answer

Steve, this failure is going to indicate that the freezer light W11683241 has shorted out. The refrigerator lights strobing is an indicator that the lights are receiving voltage, and therefore, the freezer light should do the same thing as the other lights if it was the board WPW10306786. As the freezer light is not turning on at all, this would indicate the light as failing. This can be tested by removing the freezer light while the door switch is pressed in (tricking the board into thinking the door is closed) and using a jumper wire where the light plugs into the wire harness. From there, if the refrigerator lights illuminate properly, the freezer LED has been verified as being the culprit.

Eric, Chances are the diffuser W10814173 is stuck cold and not letting freezer air into the refrigerator side. We could send you a tech sheet to enter service mode and test the baffle but you did not leave us your email.

David, There is a power supply board located on the back of the unit and would be part number W10830278 that would be the most likely cause for dim lights.

Hello Jim, on this model, both door switches are interconnected, and its unlikely both switches are faulty. The refrigerator's LED light modules are on 2 different series circuits, since all the lights are not working at times that leads back to the LED power supply board.W11038857.

Hello Terry, the freezer section LED light module has failed, it will also affect the top fresh food section lights as it is a series circuit, the freezer light module is W11683243. The side fresh food lights are a different circuit.

Hello Arthur, the led light module's are only held to the liner by the module's side tabs however the 2 wires for the light circuit can be trapped in the cabinet foam insulation restricting the amount you can pull the module out, if the wires break or the wires terminals pull out there is no practical repair as the openings are very small and the wires go in at right angles. This is the manufacturer's design.
