Alan for Model Number ALE643RBW

The wire coming out of the heating element has burned in two for the third time now. A service tech repaired it the first time. It worked for two loads of clothes and burned in two again. The coating on the wire and the wire melts right at the connection. I replaced the connection the next time and hooked it back up and the same thing happened after one or two loads. It always happens on the side of the element opposite the thermal fuse and the Hi limit thermostat safety sensors. Is this due to a faulty heating element or something else?

Hello Alan, This is normally associated with an air flow issue. You should first check the exhaust ducting for crimps and clogs. Any flexible ducting you locate should be replaced with rigid aluminum ducting for a full 4-inch diameter. This normally corrects the issue when the wire is properly spliced.

Hello Marlene, you'll want to make sure your igniter WP7432P136-60 is glowing a bright white. If you notice that it's not glowing a bright white or not coming on at all make sure you're getting voltage to it. If it's getting voltage you'll need to replace the igniter, if not you'll have to check the wires and test at the board to make sure voltage is being sent out. Hope this helps!

Marie, The most likely cause for this issue would be a faulty gas valve that when it gets heated up it closes off due to bad solenoids. This would require the valve to be replaced. The part number for the valve is WPW10293048.

Gary, The oven sensor would not cause the bake element to work and you would need to replace the lower relay board which would be part number 12001914 but unfortunately has been discontinued by the manufacturer with no suitable replacement available.
