The Relay and Overload is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool refrigerators. These electronic components regulate key refrigerator operations and safety measures. The relay controls the start and stop of refrigeration components like the compressor and condenser fan motor.

Symptoms of a bad relay and overload include:

  • Refrigerator failing to consistently cool or maintain temperature
  • Buzzing or humming noises coming from cooling areas
  • Tripped circuit breakers

Causes can include defective relay contacts, a burned-out overload, or worn-out electrical components internal to either part.

This OEM Whirlpool replacement is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, and select Kenmore fridge models as well.

James for Model Number ARB1914CW

The original replacement relay for my fridge ARB1914CW is WP12555902. In the previous questions and answers others have mentioned that the wiring is different. An answer was provided that said: There is a kit that will work for your unit which is part number 8201786 which will have a relay that you just plug in like your original relay. However, if I look at part 8201786 there are 2 white relay/overload combo parts. One has a red dot on it and the other has a black dot on it. Which one of the two would be a replacement for WP12555902 if I do not want to rewire to fit part WP12555902?

1 Answer

James you would use the relay that would have the black dot on it for your model refrigerator.

Richard for Model Number ARB2217CB

Your part is different from my part that I want to replace. Your part number is AP4013414 or the manufacturer part number is 12555902 relay and overload part. Is there a kit with the part to retrofit my part? My part has a modular type plug that has the blue and white wires together in one plug. Your replacement part has a blade type connection. My question pertains to whether you provide the kit to retrofit or not. And, if you do not provide the kit, how much is the kit? Also, do you provide wiring directions or would I have to rely on the schematic of the appliance? Thanks for any answer you could provide.

Hello Tracy! According to the model number given the overload, part number WP12555902 is the correct replacement listed for your appliance. This is a manufacturer replacement part and may differ in appearance but is a functional equivalent to the original. Thanks.

Mo for Model Number JCB2059GES

The compressor relay in this Jenn-air refrigerator went bad. I ordered a new part, but it has two separate connectors on the front while the original one has the two connectors right next to each other. Hence the cable can fit since it has one plastic termination. It seems that I need to remove the plastic termination and put new ones on each of the two wires(blue and white). So my questions: 1. which wire goes where? 2. what type of termination do I need to buy and how to attach to the wires? Regards

1 Answer

Mo, The terminals that would go with the part would be 1/4" spade terminals. The Blue wire would go to the terminal marked L and the white would go to terminal marked N. If this is not the route that you would want to go then you could get part number 8201786 which will have the original style relay in it.

Juan M for Model Number KSRG25FKBL01

I have been having several problems with the KSRG25FKBL01 Kitchen Aid side by side refrigerators. The unit-compressor stop to work suddenly just into few hours from we does the first start of the refrigerator (refrigerators are new brand, never used, but storaged by 2 years). After a revision I noticed that the part 12555902 (AP4013414) doesn't work or is burned out. I was wondering if the time in the stored could affect this part... By the other hand... I have in our storages a few of KSRG25FKSS refrigerators, those have the same time stored and we have never had any problem with them. Also, I noticed these has a different overload relay part 67005560 (AP4079373), in fact, sometimes I take these part to install them into the KSRG25FKBL01 and it works just great... I need to replace this part in 16 KSRG25FKBL01 refrigerators (Overload, Relay) My question is: ¿Could I use the 67005560 (AP4079373) part, since I have seen better performance? or ¿Should I use the 12555902 (AP4013414) since this is the recommended part? Thank you in advance for your advice.

1 Answer

Juan, Normally being in storage would not affect the performance of an overload relay. It is possible that the relay could have gotten moisture on it and caused it to become weak. You would want to use the WP12555902 relay as opposed to the other since there may be differences in the ratings and designs of them.

Stephanie for Model Number jfc2087hrs jenn air

I chatted last nigh with a very nice customer service representative and she suggested I contact you for further information. Per the diagram I pulled what I believe to be the capacitor out (says on part) but also two other parts that were all connected - removed the wires from the middle piece. anyhow - we didn't have the multi meter to test so she suggested we take it out and shake it and if it rattled it failed - it is definitely making a sound. The freezer wasn't cooling an ice pack sufficiently, the temperature setting was lowered to make the freezer cooler. My husband said he noticed it wasn't running and he had restarted it 3 times and by the time I saw it everything was warm in both refrigerator and freezer. The fan is working and the big black ball looking part is hot and there is a click. We are hoping it is the relay as we have had this issue before but had paid someone to repair. Is this easy enough for me to do on my own?

1 Answer

Hello Stephanie, If the start relay rattles, the ceramic disk inside has shattered and the start relay has failed and cannot be repaired. The replacement part W10613606 should be a plug in replacement for the original part. You should have no problem replacing the part yourself.
