1 Answer Jacqui, No, you do not have to have a water filter installed in order for the ice maker or water dispenser to work. There is no "bypass" plug required. When the filter is removed or not installed, the filter housing automatically bypasses the filter and allows the water to flow to the components. I have looked everywhere online and can't find the right cap. Whirlpool says it is WP12664501 and I bought that on Amazon, but it is a circle, and my filters have an oval shape. My filters are W10413645A or P9RFWB2L (can't tell which one). Any info would be great, thanks!
