Zeke, This could be a drive block that is damaged. It is made of pot metal so if it is damaged it will leave flakes. Other than that it would becoming from inside the tub rather than the pump.

Kayla, You will want to check to see if the water is on to the unit. If the water is on then turn on the unit and check for 120 vac to the water valve. If there is power to the valve then replace the water valve.

Al, It does not sound as though the drain pump would need to be replaced. You will want to check the drain for restrictions in the pump and try to check the impellers on the pump.

Hello Billy, This is caused by a water leak causing the motor shaft to rust. The rust expands, freezing the pump to the motor shaft. To prevent this from occurring again simply sand the motor shaft to remove all of the rust possible and apply grease to the motor shaft. This will deter moisture and help prevent the oxidation of the steel. Re-install the pump and the next time the pump fails it will come off easily.

Billy, When installing the new water pump you can put just a little grease on the shaft of the motor which will help with keeping the pump from seizing to the shaft of the motor.
