Causes of a bad direct drive washer pump can include blockages from debris or foreign objects, wear and tear from regular use, damage to the pump impeller, or electrical issues affecting the pump motor. Over time, these factors can hinder the pump's performance, leading to operational issues.

Symptoms of a bad direct drive washer pump include:

  • Washer not draining water properly
  • Unusual noises during the drain cycle, such as grinding or humming
  • Water leaks from the bottom of the washer
  • Washing machine stopping mid-cycle due to drainage issues

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Randy for Model Number LSQ9110KQ0

On rinse / spin cycle makes an odd clicking noise sometimes but not always, yesterday caught a burning smell & thought ah ha pump going bad & locking up & burning belt. Looked up this sight & found that the pump is direct drive - pulled it out just to make sure & pump is fine turns free no leak drive shaft connection is fine. Some times after the clicking noise 15 to 20 sec the machine goes ahead & completes the cycle. Also found the belt does have a kinked /burnt spot. Gearbox ? How hard to change out?

Randy, sometimes on a heavy load, the washer will make a clicking noise when spinning, this can cause the motor to overheat and put off an odor. This is a direct drive system that uses a motor coupling and it does not have a drive belt.

Ken, it sounds like your clutch is slipping and not spinning the basket fast enough, you will probably need to replace the gearcase and the clutch. The seal around the gearcase shaft will start leaking and letting oil seap up and around the clutch.

My washer drum bangs against the wall of the frame when it is in extraction mode. I took the washing machine apart to see if there were any springs missing or broken from the frame of the drum, but I found that all the springs were attached and looked in good working condition. I looked at the parts diagram to go observe and see if there were any springs missing from the machine in comparison to the diagram and noticed that none were missing. I tested machine again after I had replaced all the springs after purchasing them just in case my eyes deceived me from my first observation, but after testing it the problem persisted. I then notice in the drum of the machine the water was not fully drained out of the machine so I thought that the drain pump was the cause to the banging of the drum against the washer frame walls. I then checked the drain pump and noticed that it looked pretty good and decent and it came off its housing without any struggle. I also checked the pump to see if the impeller was functional and all looked functional and clear. I have no idea what is causing the washing machine to bang against the inner walls of the washing machine frame when the washer is in extraction mode? Please, can you help with your expert opinion and advise for a solution to my problem?

Richard, There are pads on the skate plate that would most likely be the cause for this issue. The part number for the pads would be lower 285744 and upper 285219.

Hello Warrant. By slamming the lid to get it to work, you have diagnosed the lid switch WP8318084 is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Kevin, It could certainly be the drain pump and would want to check the filter on it to make sure that there is no debris that would keep it from draining completely. If this checks ok then it could be that the unit is not spinning properly which if it is banging around any then could be a issue with the spider having been broken.

Christopher, You will want to check the drain pump on the unit to see if there is something that may be caught in the pump causing the unit to make the squealing noise and causing the motor to overheat. Also check the spin bearing on the unit as it may be bad.

Emad, You need to check the height of the drain pipe, it needs to be 38 inches high from the floor, in order for the tub to fill properly and hold the water. If the drain pipe is too low the water will siphon out as the tub is filling.
