For Whirlpool Washer Drain Pump (Part Number: OEM18024339)

Nancy for Model Number KAWS850JQ0

Washer just stopped between rinse and spin cycle. There was a slight smell of something 'burning'. Wouldn't restart on any settings. Read your Q&A's, etc. Checked washer lid switch & Strike (ok), Capacitor (ok), Water pump (easy to spin, no leaks), Direct Drive Coupling Assy (literally no wear on the plastic & rubber). The motor spins without restraint or grind. Good thing, as you don't show a replacement motor. What else could be wrong? How can I test the power cord and motor start switch with a multi-meter?

Hello Nancy, the part of the washer's neutral circuit runs through the motor internally, using a multimeter check for continuity between motor terminals with white to white/black wires,if it shows as open then the motor has failed.

Kun, Yes, the pump could be a clogged or the bearings have seized WP3363892, either situation can/will put an excess drag on the motor and keep it from running. Based on your post information replace the drain pump and you should be up and running in no time.

Michael, first check to make is the lid switch, it has to have a "closed" circuit with the lid down, in order for the motor to run in the drain/spin direction. If the motor runs in the drain spin portion of the cycle, you'll need to check the tub to pump hose, and the drain hose for a clogged or kinked area of the hose.

Chris, You are on the right track. You will want to check to make sure that the pump is not clogged or restricted and make sure that the pump is turning freely.

Hello Danny. Pull the pump off the shaft is the only way. Then use some sand paper to clean the shaft of the motor as best as you can so the new pump slides onto the shaft without forcing it.
