Dave March 09, 2017 for Model Number Whirlpool gas dryer with radiant flame sensor My dryer main burner valve doesn't open when all circuitry is functioning. But it does operate when I pull one wire from the radiant flame sensor. The sensor has continuity when cold. I pulled it and held it over a gas flame until pretty hot, but it never lost continuity. Do these sensor sometimes fail in the closed position, thereby preventing the main burner valve from opening?
1 Answer Dave, Yes this flame sensor can fail closed and would need to replace this flame sensor. Read More...
Paul October 30, 2016 for Model Number MGDC300XW. Gas dryer How do you figure out of your flame sensor is bad. Can you connect the two terminals to the flame sensor. Will that override the sensor to see if the gas and starter work and ignite?
1 Answer Hello Paul. It should read closed for continuity if good. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Milton September 17, 2016 for Model Number MDG6700AWW My Gas dryer is taking too long to dry, it could take up to 2 or 3 hours every time. Initially, there was no heat so I replaced igniter, cycling thermostat and coils and now it's taking too long to dry. Could this be a flame sensor issue?
1 Answer Milton, If the flame is coming on then the flame sensor is good. You will want to check the venting of the unit from the blower wheel to the outside of the home as this will be the most likely cause of the long drying times. Read More...
Ralph September 08, 2016 for Model Number ggq8858hql Dryer blows only cold air, will not get hot. Can not hear it ignite.
1 Answer Hello Ralph. You will need to test the thermostats and the flame sensor and make sure they are good. They should read closed for continuity. Also, check the igniter to see if it is good. If it is not glowing, test for power. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter for the testing procedures. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Ryan May 14, 2016 for Model Number dlgx3361w My dryer has inconsistent heat. Sometimes it will work all day and other times it will not heat. All of the thermostats are good and my flame sensor has continuity. I also ran the machine without the dust work hooked up, to see if that made any difference. Gas valve is new. I was wonderring about the flame sensor itself because the circuit is closed and it lights the igniter. How can you tell if the circuit opens so the coils open.
1 Answer Ryan, If the flame sensor was faulty, the igniter wouldn't stop glowing, or it wouldn't glow at all. Power reaches the valve assembly by the molex connection to the valve. The coil assembly and igniter receive the line voltage (120 VAC) when the flame sensor is "closed"and develop a magnetic draw through the coil. The igniter begins to glow and heat, the secondary coil is bypassed by the flame sensor. When the igniter is hot enough two things occur, the igniter resistance decreases, the heat from the igniter causes the flame sensor switch to open. The fame sensor contacts are open the secondary coil is no longer bypassed it's now in series with the igniter and booster coil, the low resistance of the igniter allows the voltage to drop across the secondary coil, a small percentage of voltage is also dropped across the igniter and booster coil. The secondary coil opens and releases the gas from the valve the gas, passing over the hot igniter cuses the gas to ignite and the burner to activate and burn. You may want to replace the flame sensor, but if it cycles off and on consistently chances are it's OK and you have a loose connection in the gas valve wire harness or an intermittent gas supply problem. Joe M March 20, 2016 for Model Number kgyw77bwh2 The igniter won't light. I changed the igniter and the coils and still nothing. So I tested(by checking continuity) the ignitor ,thermal fuse, hi low thermostat, vent fuse. They all tested good. I also tested the power going to the coils and coming out of the fuses they were good. but no, power going to the igniter the only thing I could find wrong was flame sensor (there was know continuity) would that prevent power to turn on the igniter. thank you joe
1 Answer Joe, If the flame sensor does not have continuity then the flame sensor would need to be replaced and could cause this issue. Read More...
Alex March 08, 2016 for Model Number MGD9600TAO My dryer runs but does not heat. What will be wrong with the dryer?
1 Answer Hello Alex, If the breaker hasn't got one side tripped and the proper voltage is supplied to the unit, you could have a bad motor, harness, cycling thermostat, high limit thermostat, thermal cutout, or element. You should pull the tech sheet and get a meter and test the components in the heating circuit. Read More...
Scott March 02, 2016 for Model Number MDG4806AWW My gas dryer is having a problem. It starts up and run for about 15 seconds and then shuts off right away. I can immediately press the button to start it again. I popped the lid on the dryer to watch it and the igniter glows and the flame comes on, but the machine stops. I initially thought it was the flame sensor, or maybe a gas value coil, but the machine only runs for 15 seconds even on the air fluff setting. I am suspecting the control board is bad.. Would you agree? Is there a way to test the control board to confirm?
1 Answer Hello Scott. Yes, based on the information you provided, it does sound like the control board is bad. You can test for power to the motor from the board. If it stops, the board is bad. Also, you may want to check the cancel button on the unit to see if it is bad. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Randy February 29, 2016 for Model Number kenmore 110.76862501 Nat Gas Hello folks. I have the Kenmore 80 series gas dryer and it does not heat. I get the glow of the igniter but I never get a flame. I do not hear the solenoids kick in. I have read many of the posts out there and solutions. I have the schematic and have done the checks with a DVM that I can. All looks good. So I obtained the valve solenoid kit and installed them this evening. Nothing changed. igniter glow but NO flame. Would the flame sensor be intermittant or am I chasing tail? Is there something else for me to look for? I am afraid that a bad gas valve is next on the list.. Not sure this is worth it. Any thoughts appreciated. I love A.P.P Thanks Randy
1 Answer Hello Randy. Check to see if the igniotr cycles on and off. If not, its not getting hot enough and you will need to replace the ignitor. If so, then it sounds like the gas valve has failed on the unit. Read More...
Charlie January 27, 2016 for Model Number LGQ8858HQ1 On my dryer, on the flame sensor, the blue and white wires were reversed. The blue wire is on the right (and lower terminal) and the white wire is on the left (and higher terminal). The video shows them the other way and the narrator/installer mentions it. I took a photo of it if you want to see it. Does it matter? Which way should I reconnect the wires on the new sensor? My thinking is that the sensor is a resistor of some sort, so it shouldn't matter, but maybe it is a different type of device. Thank you for your time.
