The Flame Sensor is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool gas dryers. This component plays a critical safety role by monitoring the presence of the gas burner flame during the drying cycle.

Causes of needing to replace the flame sensor can include normal wear and tear over extended use, exposure to high temperatures or corrosion, or physical damage to the sensor itself.

Symptoms that may indicate a faulty flame sensor include:

  • The dryer not heating or producing heat properly
  • Error codes related to the gas system or ignition failure
  • The dryer shutting off unexpectedly during cycles

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore gas dryer models.

Ed for Model Number LGR7648KQ0

Hello My gas dryer works okay except when it starts it will heat for a few minutes and then the heat goes away. I measured for continuity across the flame sensor and it was good, the chime on the multimeter sounds.. The continuity between the top and bottom connectors of the thermostat was good. The resistance between the two middle connectors was about 1.826 ohms. Then I heated the back of the therostat up with a hot air gun and the resistance of the top and bottom connectors went to infinite or the chime quit. This sounds normal for both items.Could the flame sensor be intermittent? Is there only one thermostat? I guess that leaves the igniter but it would seem hard to test it.

Ed, This issue would most likely be caused by bad coils on the gas valve. The coils will allow gas flow but once they heat up they open and cause the gas flow to stop. You can let it cool down for a while and they will come back. This is a sign of weak coils 279834.

John, The igniter 279311 would be the next check, you'll want to disconnect the harness and check for approximately 50 to 500 ohms resistance on the Rx1 multi meter scale across the two pins in the connector. Then check the flame sensor WP338906 remove the wires from the terminals and check for a "closed" circuit across the terminals with the sensor at room temperature.

Aby for Model Number whirlpool gas dryer lhi5701go

Turn on dryer and everything works, blower, drum spins after approximately 30 seconds the igniter glows hear a click and see flames and flame stays on approximately 4 minutes and go off. When next heating cycle begin igniter glows hear a click but no flames, this continues for five six cycle s and I turn off machine. Before doing this I cleaned and vacuumed everything air flow not obstructed and wipe all sensors with dry cloth. I waited 45 minutes and started machine again and all worked well till second heating cycle igniter glows hear click but no flames. machine works ok but only when completely cold . Did this four time until load of cloths dried. which is the culprit the flame sensor, dryer igniter or adjustable dryer cycling thermostat.

Hello Aby. Sounds like the coils on the valve are bad and will need to be replaced on the unit. Unfortunately, the coils are not available separate from the valve and burner assembly, part number 279894. Thanks.

Ken, You will want to test the leads going to the igniter to see if it is getting 120 vac. If it is then the igniter is bad and if not then you will want to check the thermal fuses and thermostats for continuity. You can also check the flame sensor for continuity. These should all have continuity and if not then the part would need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Juststeve, The most likely cause would be a bad flame sensor or a bad coils on the gas valve. You can test the flame sensor and it should be closed when doing a continuity test. If it checks ok then the coils are faulty.
