Hello Amy. If the icemaker is overfilling, replace the water valve. However, if the icemaker is leaking, just replace the icemaker.

Hello Tim. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Rex for Model Number 106.54563300

I have a Kenmore refrigerator from 2006. The ice maker has worked well for years but in the last year it has started to develop ice around the fan blades in the freezer and makes a terrible sound. I had to dismantle the back tin covering inside the freezer compartment and remove large pieces of ice extending from the fan blades all the way up to where the water enters the ice tray. Obviously there is a leak but where is it? There is no ice in the plastic tube leading to the ice tray...nor is there ice seen inside the tube leading to this plastic tube from somewhere behind the freezer. It only takes 1-2 days for the ice to build up and start to freeze around the fan blades. I haven't used the ice maker for a year now because of this problem. How do I access the compartment behind the freezer? Do you have any history of this problem? Thank you.

Rex, Most likely the cause for the unit leaking in the way described would be caused by the water valve seeping and allowing the fill cup to get ice in it and flowing out the back. This would require a new water valve.

Hello Miria. No, you can use the old wires if they are good. It should cycle within 4 hours if the temp is between 0 and 5°.

Kaashif V.

Hello, I just got an ice-maker kit with the water valve and hoses. I connected everything as per instructions and when I went to test the unit by moving the arm down to fill the water, there was no action from the valve. I took everything out of the refrigerator and hooked it up outside in a makeshift circuit with direct 120v power and the valve is activated by the control arm moving up and down. I measured the voltage at the valve connector and it reads 14v regardless of the switch position on the ice-maker unit. My question would be what would be the problem here? Thanks

1 Answer

Hello Kaashif, There is no problem with the icemaker or the water inlet valve. The icemaker will not send 120Vac to the water inlet valve until the thermostat in the icemaker has been satisfied. This means that the icemaker will have to be in the freezer compartment until it reaches about 20°F.
