Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Replacement Icemaker (Part Number: OEM12405033)

1 Answer

Hello Bob, If you remove the white motor module cover from the front of the icemaker assembly, you will see a square hole at the area the harness plugs in. The square hole is actually a locking tab to prevent the harness from accidentally coming out. If you use a small screwdriver to depress the side of the square closest to the harness and pull on the harness, it will slip right out. The new one, of course, plugs into the same opening until you hear it, (or feel it), snap in.

I did as you said and it worked! the drain was iced over causing water to freeze in bottom of freezer and drip down to refrig. It wasn't easy getting to it but with hot water and a coat hanger it cleared. Now -- WHAT causes the water to freeze in that location, never had a problem before. could it be too much water pressure coming into the icemaker and leaving more water than it needs? I sure don't want to have to do this again. Thanks for your fast reply and helping me find the problem. I will continue to order all parts in the future from you. g. jordan..

Hello G Jordan. This is usually some type of trash getting into the drain hose and clogging it. You should be fine now that it is cleared out.

G. Jordan, If you are getting water in the refrigerator section then you will need to pull the rear cover of the freezer compartment and look for a clogged drain. A clogged drain is the most common issue in which you will need to clear all the ice from the trough and run hot water through the drain to get it unclogged.

Hello Curt. Freezer being to cold in the unit or a bad icemaker will cause this issue. The freezer should be 0° to 5° in order for proper operation.

Hello Sharon. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
