Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Replacement Icemaker (Part Number: OEM12405033)

TTB, The only way that this could occur would be something in the control board causing the dual water valve to open the dispenser solenoid instead of the icemaker solenoid on the valve. Double check all wiring and if the wiring is good then the control board would be faulty.

The ice maker stopped making ice. I watched a video and it said that the water might be frozen and suggested that I use a blow dryer to clear the ice. The icemaker started making ice but some cubes are tiny and others are too big and then it simply stopped making ice at all. I thought at first there was a blockage so I again used a hair dryer and thawed the ice maker out. I put the catch bin tray back in and heard the water run into the ice maker and a little while later I heard the ice cubes fall. I checked them and again some were tiny and others were too big. The ice maker made about 40 cubes of misshapen ice overnight and then stopped making ice again.

Hello Donald, on your model the main control board controls all ice maker functions, the Service Test mode needs to be run and then run Test 56 for ice maker fail codes to find the root cause of the problem. Your model came with a Technical Data sheet showing how to run the testing, it is usually located under/behind the lower front grill or tucked under the right side fresh food door top hinge cover.

Angel, normally the icemaker 4317943 would ship within 5 to 10 business days of being ordered (pending the manufacturer's availability) when showing out of stock. If the wire going to the ice maker is connected directly to the wall without any connection point that can be disconnected, then the wire would be re-used. However, there usually is a wire connector that can be disconnected.

Buud, the manufacturer does show the ice maker kit 4317943 being used with the model number provided although it does not include the wire harness WP2254792. When installing the ice maker, the original wire harness would be transferred to the new ice maker.

i have replaced the water inlet valve twice, a year or so between. neither time did the ice maker completely quit leaking into the ice. My question is, are there additional components inside the freezer that could be leaking or cause this symptom? Note: I was quite thorough about flushing out the water supply line and preventing any contaminants from entering the valve and i am on city water with a working pressure reducing valve set at 60 psi.

1 Answer

Daniel, Check the water inlet tube and the fill-cup on the ice maker to make sure it is not obstructed and that the fill tube fits into the fill cup. Watch the ice maker going through a cycle and see if it is overfilling or if the water is missing the tray. You may need to replace the ice maker assembly.

RCR, The bracket at the bottom you would remove from the old one and put it on the new one. The fill cup may just have a u-shaped opening instead of a round opening but either will work. This would be an OEM part and we do not sell refurbished parts.

Byers, it would be recommended that the ice is cleared out using warm water to spray into the fill tube or by carefully using a small flat head screwdriver. It is not recommended that pressurized air is used as it can cause a tube to rupture.
