The Moisture Sensor is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. This part detects the moisture level in the clothing during the drying cycle, allowing the dryer to adjust the drying time accordingly. 

Causes of a bad moisture sensor can include regular wear and tear, buildup of lint or residue, or physical damage. 

Symptoms of a bad moisture sensor include:

  • Clothes taking longer to dry or coming out still damp
  • The dryer not stopping when clothes are dry
  • The dryer shutting off prematurely
  • Inconsistent drying results

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Hello Jonh. Yes, if the sensor bar assembly 279366 has a sharp point, it can catch the threads on clothing and towels. You will need to replace the assembly. Also check and make sure there are no othere thing inside the drum that can cause this as well. Hope this helps.

Hello. In general, if the timer works in timed dry,but not on auto dry, usually indicates a clogged or restricted vent. You may want to try cleaning out any lint in your vent ducting and see if this relieves your issue. I hope this info helps.

Hello Dave. If your unit does not heat at all, there is a high limit thermostat W11050897, a cycling thermostat WP3387134, a thermal fuse WP3392519, and an element that could all cause issues like this. I would suggest testing all these parts first. These can all be using a multi meter [AP344064]. I will include a link in this message to an article that has info on how to test various parts with a meter. Hello Erik. From what your describing, it sounds like the coils 279834 are bad and will need to be replaced. Check and see if the flame ignites, then goes off and does not come back on. If so, the coils will need to be replaced. Hope this helps.

Hello Ryan. It sounds like the venting system is clogged. You will need to check the vent and clean it out. Be sure and clean the pipe and the dryer both. Hope this helps.

Hello. Check the venting system and make sure it is clear from cloggs and kinks. If all is clear, you may have a bad cycling thermostat. WP3387134 Hope this helps.
