The Temperature Sensor is an OEM part for Whirlpool ice makers. This sensor plays a crucial role in monitoring and regulating the temperature within the ice maker, ensuring that ice is produced at the optimal temperature and maintaining the efficiency of the ice-making process.

Causes of a bad ice machine temperature sensor can include normal wear and tear, exposure to moisture or temperature fluctuations, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning sensor can result in improper ice production, affecting the quality and quantity of ice.

Symptoms of a bad ice machine temperature sensor include:

  • Inconsistent or insufficient ice production
  • Ice maker not functioning at all
  • Ice cubes that are too small or misshapen
  • Error codes or alerts related to the ice maker

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Jarhead for Model Number GI15NDXXS1

I have a Whirlpool GI15NDXXS1 under counter ice maker. It stopped filling with water recently, so I changed out the valve (Valve WPW10340983 / AP6019930) and it didn't work. I then tried the sensor (Sensor WPW10548509 / AP6022829) and it still does not fill with water. I don't know what else to try at this point. I know just because the part is new does not mean it is good. the sensor is reading 10.2 Ohm so I think that is good. Any suggestions? Jarhead for Model Number GI15NDXXS1 ANSWER Jarhead, Check to make sure that the water line is not frozen between the valve and the reservoir. If it is not then test to make sure that there is 120 Vac getting to the valve when it is supposed to fill with water. If it is not then the issue will be with the control board. My follow-up question is as follows- I know it is not the frozen issue since I am just turning the maker on. I tested the black and white wires on the valve and it seems as if it has a constant 120v so I think I am doing something wrong. Can you explain how I test the voltage (which wires perhaps). Or is their a way to test the main board or just replace it and see if it turns on? The Arizona summer is coming my way and I would love to get this ice maker working soon. Thank you for your help.

Jarhead, Check to see if the water line between the fill valve and the reservoir is frozen. If it is then thaw it and put some insulation around it to keep it from freezing. If it is not then this would most likely be a control board issue.

Barry, The unit will have a timed fill and should stop filling after filling for several minutes. If it continues then this could be a water valve issue or a water level sensor issue.

Douglas, With the water running over the evaporator plate, check to see if the compressor is running. If the compressor is running but not freezing then there will be a sealed system issue that will require service. If the compressor is not running then check to see if there is power to the compressor and if there is then replace the overload and relay. If there is not power to the compressor then the issue will be in the control board.

Scott, the fill level sensor WPW10548509 can create many issues if it has shorted. Based on the information provided, it sounds like this is going to be the case.

Chris, it would be recommended that the wire harness is inspected for corrosion or damaged sections. If the wire harness is good, then the failure would most likely be the smart valve WPW10217917 based on the information provided. The smart valve is responsible for identifying how much water is provided to the water reservoir.

Hello Dane, this model cannot automatically go into a clean cycle if a problem is detected by the control board. In that case the control will stop the ice making cycle and the clean light will blink out a code. This sounds more like a sticking control panel pad problem, the control panel switch assembly is part WP2185592 and the panel overlay is part 2208317W however the overlay is no longer available from the manufacturer. If you still suspect a thermistor as a test you can disconnect the evap plate thermistor and the control board will then default to a timed ice making cycle rather then through temp readings from the evap thermistor. A faulty bin thermistor will either prevent all ice-making or run ice-making cycles non stop overflowing the ice bin.
