The Oven Sensor Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens, designed to accurately measure the oven's internal temperature and communicate it to the control board. This ensures that the oven maintains the desired temperature setting during baking or roasting, providing consistent cooking results.

Causes of a bad Oven Sensor Assembly can include exposure to high temperatures for prolonged periods, affecting the sensor's accuracy, electrical malfunctions like short circuits or wiring issues impacting its performance, and physical damage from cleaning or moving the oven compromising the sensor's integrity.

Symptoms of a bad Oven Sensor Assembly include:

  • The oven does not heat to the set temperature
  • Over or undercooking of food
  • Error codes displayed on the oven's control panel

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Kerwin, There is no need " to exchange it for the correct one. " The WPW10181986 and the WP8274149 Oven Sensor Assembly, are the revised part for the [8273902] Sensor Assembly, in your range. It is a "factory direct replacement part", it may look different than the original part, but it will function properly in your range. Thanks,

Mike, There should be no need to "keep the door cracked open" when baking, on broil some people will leave the door open to the broil stop, so the burner doesn't cycle. The F1 and F3 codes indicate a problem in the oven temperature sensor circuit/wiring. That should be the first component to check or replace(especially if you do a lot of broiling, roasting, or extended bake times. The F1 code indicates a problem in the internal circuits of the control " F1 Internal board failure." but if the sensor has failed or is giving a "false signal" that could cause an F1 error as well. " F3 Oven sensor opened".

Hello Jody, it sounds like you can program your oven so you'll want to test the igniter from the tip of the igniter to the end of the wire. You should have a closed circuit, if that test good you'll want to replace the spark module WPW10331686. Thanks!

Ken, You will want to check the oven sensor for 1090 ohms of resistance at room temp. If the temp checks ok then this will most likely be an issue with either the element (which can be tested for continuity) or a bad control board.

Amy, You can check the oven sensor for a resistance of 1090 ohms at 77 degrees and if it does not check out ok then this will be a bad oven sensor. If the sensor checks ok then the issue will be a bad control board.

Hello Doug. Oven sensor opened - Top. 1. Measure sensor value (between connector pins) between 1000 ? @ 32° F and 2697 ? @ 900° F (room temperature approx. = 1080 ?). If measurement does not correlate to real temperature, disconnect power, replace sensor and refer to steps 3-5. Also measure from sensor connector to sensor casing for possible short. 2. Trace wires and connectors to sensor from control, then from sensor back to control. If all connections are made and no wire damage, refer to step 3. 3. Disconnect power longer than 30 seconds. 4. Re-apply power and observe for longer than 1 minute. 5. If failure remains, disconnect power, replace control.
