Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Oven Sensor (Part Number: OEM18028239)

Roberta H, It is possible that the issue with the unit could be a faulty oven sensor. You will want to check the oven sensor resistance for 1080 ohms at 70 degrees. You add 2 ohms per degree from that mark. If the resistance is not valid then replace the sensor.

Steve for Model Number GBS277PDS1

My wife did a self clean on the oven, the next day she started the oven on bake and as always it started @ 350°, when she tried to increase the temperature, it goes down in degrees instead of up. Pressing either the up arrow or down the temperature only goes down even when pressing the up arrow, the only way to get it back is to press the off button then the bake button to get it back to 350°. I tried turning off the circuit breaker to see if that would reset the problem. When I flipped the breaker back on there was a "PF" on the display. When I pushed the bake button it showed 350° again, tried to increase temperature but problem still exists. Any ideas? Thanks, Steve

Hello Steve, The PF is a power failure code so it will not matter since the power was dis-continued when the breaker was turned off. The other is a concern. It sounds like the touchpad or cable has shorted. This issue could be in the control, but considering the failure description, the issue is most likely the touchpad. Since these have been discontinued by the manufacturer with no satisfactory substitution, you can do a search online to see if you can locate a business that can rebuild you existing part.

Hello Elizabeth, The temperature sensor (AP3008972) tells the clock the oven temperature so it would be the logical part to suspect. If you want to check it, an ohm meter should read about 1100 ohms at room temperature, (about 75°F). If it reads open from the lead on the clock, you should test it from the back of the unit to ensure the issue isn't the harness from the clock to the sensor.

Hi Pat. It seems like you need to replace the Control Panel Assembly (black W/membrane Switch) Item Number: 4451231. As you described that the clock automatically changes then it is ok. Thank You.

Pat, You would expect to see an error code in the display( F3 E0 or,1,2,3) sooner or later. Based on your post description, it does sound like a fault in the oven temp. sensor WP4451665 especially if this occurred after a self clean cycle. Thanks
