The Turbidity Sensor is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It detects the level of particles in the water during the wash cycle, allowing the dishwasher to adjust the cycle duration and water usage for optimal cleaning performance. This sensor ensures that dishes are thoroughly cleaned by monitoring water clarity.

You should replace the turbidity sensor if it becomes faulty or damaged. Causes of a bad turbidity sensor can include regular wear and tear, exposure to hard water minerals, or electrical malfunctions. A malfunctioning sensor can lead to inefficient cleaning cycles and poor wash results.

Symptoms of a bad turbidity sensor include:

  • Dishes not being cleaned properly
  • Dishwasher running longer than usual or shorter cycles
  • Error codes related to the sensor
  • Inconsistent wash performance

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Matt for Model Number WDT720PADM0

My dishwasher won’t clean dishes and the soap just drips down the door unused. I checked the resistance of the OWI sensor via 12.1 and 12.3 on the harness. It was an open circuit. I confirmed continuity is good on the wires between the board and the sensor. I replaced the sensor but had the same results from the test. Replaced the sensor again fearing I got a bad one, but still has an open circuit. When performing the service diagnostics, I’ll sometimes get an F6, E6 error and sometimes won’t. The clean LED does not come on when it should in intervals 15 and 12 but it does come on in interval 4. What part do I change next when everything says the OWI sensor is broken but it’s not?

1 Answer

Matt, if the OWI sensor was being tested via the wire harness W10850395 for the new one as well, it would be likely that there is a wire harness failure that is occurring during the opening and closing of the door. If the meter being used is not an auto range meter, it would need to be set to a reading level just higher than 52K Ohms. Another thing to check if the circulation motor is operating would be the jets of the spray arm. If the jets have a clog, it can affect the water being able to spray into the dispenser when the detergent door is opened.

Dishwasher won't complete it's wash cycle. It fills, heats and agitates the water fine, but then stops and makes three beeps continuously while flashing the "clean" indicator light. Water is still in the bottom, but drains when I hit the drain/cancel button. This was an intermittent problem that got progressively more consistent. When I put it in diagnostic mode, I got F9E1: product not draining and F10E2: Vent Wax Motor electrical problem. I have suspicions of a couple different possibilities, but I would like to be more sure before replacing parts.

Ed, The blinking LED likely is an indication of an error that the CCU has logged. The not draining issue could be a clog in the drain or a drain motor not working, these will need to be checked and corrected if they are issues. The electrical issue at the dispenser would also need to be resolved. Once these have been resolved or confirmed as a non-issue but still give the errors then you may have a CCU that has gone bad and would need to be replaced.

Hello Frank, You can clean the turbidity sensor WPW10705575 and many times that works. Sometimes it has to be replaced because it will also contain a thermistor which plays a significant part in cleaning the dishes.

Rob W, The turbidity sensor would not have anything to do with the issue that you are having. Since the main pump and the diverter have been replaced, check the wiring between them to the main control board. If the wiring is good then this will most likely be a faulty control board.

Hello Kim, this could be an overheating drain pump, a faulty turbidity/thermistor problem, or a main board problem. Suggest you run the test mode as per the Tech Sheet that came with your model and check if there are any fault codes showing, the tech sheet will be under/behind the front lower kickplate.

Andrew, If the unit is filling with water but not circulating the water then check to make sure that there is nothing caught in the circulation motor and make sure that the circulation motor is getting 120 Vac to it. With the dishwasher not drying the dishes check the heater to make sure that it is good. It is possible that you have a control board issue but should check these other things first.

Conrad for Model Number WDT720PADM0

My dishwasher is intermittently not completing cycles, and we find the soap puck undissolved in the base of the machine. The inlet valve functions properly and fills the sump upon startup. I hear what I believe to be the diverter motor running and clicking within the first minute after that. However, the circulation pump will only sometimes run. I am getting codes F6E6 and F7E2 which appear to relate to cold water temp, but I have verified my incoming water is nice and hot as it should be. What component should I troubleshoot next?

1 Answer

Hello Conrad, the codes refer to low-temperature incoming water and a possible heater problem, however, if the control board does not see the circulation pump running it will disable the heater resulting in the code. As a check uninstall the dishwasher and look for the 2 Light blue wires going to the circulation pump which is under and toward the rear of the tub base, unlock the wire connection to the pump and repeatedly move it out/in,(cleaning the terminals,) reinstall the dishwasher and check if it has corrected the problem at least temporarily, if so the main wire harness W10850395 will need to be replaced, this is usually not a pump or control board problem.

Brendan for Model Number MDB7759SAS0

Our dishwasher will continue running for hours and will not complete a cycle. This began happening about a month ago, now every time we run any cycle it will continue running unless we open the door. I ran the diagnostic on the dishwasher and I am getting error code 10-1, which claims it is the Detergent dispenser failure. Our dispenser seems to be opening and dispensing the detergent throughout the cycle, so I think this might be a mistake with the diagnostic. Does this sound like a detergent dispenser error or a turbidity sensor error?

1 Answer

Hello Brendan, This sounds like there is a control "programming" error. I would first replace the control W10589069 after verifying the connections to the detergent and rinse-aid dispenser W11032769.
