The Suspension Spring is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It helps support the washer tub and absorbs shock as the tub moves during the wash and spin cycles, ensuring stability and reducing vibrations. This spring is essential for maintaining the washer's balance, preventing excessive movement, and minimizing noise during operation.

Causes of a bad suspension spring can include wear and tear from regular use, overloading the washer, or damage from unbalanced loads. When the suspension spring fails, it can lead to increased vibrations, noise, and potential damage to other components of the washing machine.

Symptoms of a bad Suspension Spring include:

  • Excessive shaking or vibrating during the wash cycle
  • Loud banging noises
  • Washer moving or "walking" during operation
  • Uneven or off-balance loads

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Suspension Spring (Part Number: OEM18030513)

1 Answer

Lori, In order to change the suspension springs you will need to remove the dryer from the top of the washer. Once removed you will remove screws that are located in the back that hold the main top to the washer. Once the main top has been removed this will give you access to the springs so that they can be changed. There should be a bracket over the springs that would need to be removed.

Hello Mike. Check the main suspension spring in the back to see if it is broken. Since this model does not use dogs, the agitator may be bad or the transmission may need to be replaced. And for the spinning issue, check the clutch and the drive block in the unit.

Kevin for Model Number wtw5100vq0

My washer bangs around horribly on spin cycle with or without clothes in it. It's done this since we moved a few months ago. I've made sure the washer is level, the balance ring seems to have the correct amount of fluid in it (about 25% full), and the suspension springs are all intact. They feel a little weak to me, but I'm not sure how strong they're supposed to be in the first place, and none seem weaker than the rest. The tub of the washer is visibly leaning to the right by quite a bit. I've looked at the skate plate and it appears to be in the correct place and the white pads all look fine. What is the most likely problem in this scenario?

Kello Kevin. You need to check the main suspension spring 285901 located in the back of the unit under the tub assembly.

Hello Rob, As long as the machine is properly leveled, the problem is most likely the skate plate WP3946509. The pads wear unevenly sometimes when the machine is run a long time without proper leveling. The way to properly level this design is to tilt the unit forward until you hear a "click", indicating the ratcheting device that the rear legs are attached to has re-centered. Then the machine is lowered back down onto the rear legs. Note that if you don't hear the click when you tilt the machine forward onto the front legs, the ratcheting device has probably stuck. If this is the case they can be freed up by tapping straight up on either of the rear legs while the machine is tilted forward. Another thing that can cause this is the saline solution could leak out of the balance ring. If this is the case for a long time, it can cause uneven wear of the pads on the skate plate. There are four springs in the suspension. three are identical and the fourth is the counterbalance spring WPW10250667 that counters the weight of the motor. The spring in the back could have broken but, if this was the case for a long time, the skate plate can be affected by this also.

Debbie for Model Number lsq8000lq2

I had changed the water pump and O-ring because my machine was leaking. Put the machine back together then on the spin cycle the banging started and the machine would move around on the floor..The next thing that was changed was the suspension spring(AP4459650/W10250667)...The problem still exists. According to your website there is another sping (AP3120822/8316845)which I did order, however I can not figure out where that one would go. Could that be my problem? If so where does that spring go? or is my problem the 3 black suspension springs? Please help....

Hello Debbie. The suspension spring WP63907 is located at the bottom of the floater plate. If they are broke or bad, it will cause the problem you are having. Lift upward on the tub assembly and make sure it is centered on the floater plate properly. If you fell it pop back into place, it should fix the problem. Hope this helps.
