The Suspension Spring is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It helps support the washer tub and absorbs shock as the tub moves during the wash and spin cycles, ensuring stability and reducing vibrations. This spring is essential for maintaining the washer's balance, preventing excessive movement, and minimizing noise during operation.

Causes of a bad suspension spring can include wear and tear from regular use, overloading the washer, or damage from unbalanced loads. When the suspension spring fails, it can lead to increased vibrations, noise, and potential damage to other components of the washing machine.

Symptoms of a bad Suspension Spring include:

  • Excessive shaking or vibrating during the wash cycle
  • Loud banging noises
  • Washer moving or "walking" during operation
  • Uneven or off-balance loads

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Suspension Spring (Part Number: OEM18030513)

Bruce for Model Number NTW4630YQO

My Amana washer has worked well for over 7 years and then during the spin cycle the banging and violent shaking started and progressively got worse. Being real careful with load distribution helped but didn't solve the problem. The suspension rods and springs were removed, inspected and appear to be in good order. The 2 balance springs were replaced to no avail....same problem. The machine spins perfectly when the tub is empty...no noise or vibration.. It seems to me that the tub should have all 4 balance springs but only 2 are recommended (positioned diagonally) which automatically creates an unbalanced condition. The tub has provision for 4 springs so why aren't they used. This is driving me nuts. Thanks for your help.

Bruce, based on the model number provided, the manufacturer has 4 suspension rods [W10780048] being used to support the tub assembly. Without the other two suspension rods in place, it will most assuredly not balance correctly.

Hello Ken. You will want to check and see if the drive block WP389140 is bad on the unit and needs to be replaced. Also, check the suspension spring in the back of the unit.

Roy for Model Number MTW5700TQ0

Machine started wobbling badly today as if something suddenly "gave way" so I took the cover off per video instructions and checked the drum springs and their mounting brackets, also checked the two springs in back, one running vertically, the other horizontally, and I'm not really seeing anything that is obvious like a spring that has come off or a worn out bracket. I don't want to just order a lot of springs and brackets unless there is a good possibility that is what I need to do. So, a) do the springs and or brackets wear out without it being obvious and b) are there other suspension problems that I need to check for other than the springs and brackets?

Hello Roy, This is more likely the skate plates and pads. If the unit was moved by lifting the machine by the tub or laid on its' back, the skate plate can turn into the wrong position. Another thing that would cause it is if the saline solution is lost from the balance ring or the spanner nut is loose.

Jaybee, The first thing that you will want to check is the power supply coming to the washer and the dryer. Check at the outlet to the unit. With both not working this will be the most likely cause for the units not powering on.

Hello Anita, I'm sorry but we will need the model number from the units' I.D. tag. This is necessary for the configuration and wiring so we can give valid diagnostic procedures and part numbers that will work on your unit. Thanks so much for your patience ands understanding in this matter.
