The Microwave Door Torsion Spring is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool microwaves. This torsion spring is responsible for providing counterbalance assistance when opening and closing the microwave door. For black, white, and biscuit models. Right hand side. No color tip.

Causes of a bad torsion spring typically include normal wear and tear over extended use. After thousands of door openings and closings, the metal spring can fatigue and lose its proper tension. Physical damage from accidental impact is also possible.

Symptoms of a defective torsion spring include:

  • The door no longer stays open at various angles and slowly closes on its own
  • Increased difficulty opening or closing the door
  • Uncontrolled or rapidly closing door that could potentially pinch fingers

This is a genuine Whirlpool OEM replacement this part is also compatible with Maytag, Jenn-Air, and some Kenmore models.

NOTE: FOR KEMC308KSS** STAINLESS MODELS, USE PART # WP4452396 FOR RIGHT SIDE AND PART # WP4452395 FOR LEFT SIDE.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Microwave Door Torsion Spring (Part Number: OEM18028215)

1 Answer

Hello, The door springs on these are actually called torsion bars or torsion springs. It does take two of them. Whirlpool had an issue with the listings and we had to research to locate the correct part numbers for the specific model number. You will need to order one WP4452398 for the right hand side and one WP4452395 for the left hand side. They will be different colors, but this is correct regardless of what color the original ones are. Be sure not to mix them up during installation since this will affect the proper door closure.
