Causes of failure involve cracking or stripping of securing clips allowing excessive movement during high-pressure spray cycles. Mineral buildup over time can also obstruct smooth operation.

Symptoms consist of:

  • Detached lower spray arm failing to thoroughly rinse lower rack dishes
  • Abnormal noises and vibrations from mobility during operation
  • Ineffective cleaning even on light soil levels
  • The lower spray arm not rotating or spinning freely during wash cycles

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Lower Spray Arm Support (Part Number: OEM18036699)

Hello Dave, there is no lower door seal as it is not needed. If there is a leak under the door in the middle that indicates there is a pressurized steam of water from inside the dishwasher that is being directed at that spot, usually this indicates a cracked or worn part that carries water from the wash pump to the spray arms or feed tube. To check, pull out the lower rack and closely inspect the lower spray arm, its mounting and the connection to the rack-mounted spray arm water feed tube.

Richard, You will want to check to make sure that that hub is not damaged and make sure that the rear feed cap is in place properly.

Johnnyq for Model Number KUDW03CTSS3

KitchenAid Dishwasher upper spray arm not turning. I cleaned out the sump and screen and chopper assembly. I also cleaned and replaced the check valve sump assembly. I cleaned out the feed tube assembly. There are no blockages in the rear feed arm, valve assembly manifold or upper spray arm assembly. Since cleaning the sump...water pressure from lower spray arm seems great but the middle spray arm still wont spin. I am trying to determine if there may be an issue related to the "Valve Assembly Manifold" which contains two metal/steel balls. it appears to regulate water flow between the "Feed Tube Assembly" and the "Manifold Turbo Zone" The "Manifold Turbo Zone: is when the ProScrub feature is activated for cleaning pots. I cant seem to find any info on the operation of this unit. I was wondering if there is some type of electro magnet that controls the metal balls?

Johnny, This issue would most likely be in the mainifold turbo assembly that is causing the issue. There is no magnet for this area but they could be getting stuck and not allow water flow.

Hello Bob, You will need to hold the center tab and turn the spray arm counterclockwise to remove this part on model KUDS01FLBL3. It will have to be turned about 1 1/2 turns for removal. As a note, do not over-tighten upon re-installation.

Hello Jawgnat, The spray arm has to be loose to be able to spin. There will always be a bit of slack in the spray arm so it can move freely with the water pressure. If the spray arm is not spinning freely, there has to be a water pressure issue, usually caused by a bad chopper assembly, a separated spray arm, a lost grommet/gasket in the feed tube that feeds water pressure to the center spray arm. You should also make sure no holes are stopped up in the spray arms.

Melissa, The hub would not be able to wobble, It sounds like the internal rear feed cap may not be all the way down properly which would cause this issue. Double check to make sure that it is and it may be necessary to replace the hub.
