This dispenser switch is the small electrical switch behind the dispenser lever/paddle. When pressed, it signals the control to dispense, helping restore a responsive lever feel and consistent ice or water dispensing.

  • Detects lever/paddle movement and closes the circuit to start dispensing
  • Helps fix: no ice or water when the lever is pressed
  • Helps fix: must press very hard or hold the lever "just right"
  • Helps fix: intermittent operation or a stuck-on dispenser due to a failing switch
What's included: 1 dispenser switch Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing; turn off water supply if working near water lines
  • Access the switch behind the dispenser panel/escutcheon; carefully release trim and tabs as designed for your model
  • Note wire positions; move connectors to the new switch in the same locations (NO/NC/COM as applicable)
  • Before reassembly, verify a positive "click" and confirm the switch changes continuity when actuated

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dispenser Switch (Part Number: OEM18071067)

1 Answer

Steve, This issue would most likely be caused by a water valve issue but before replacing, check to make sure that there is no clogging in the dispenser ports at the top of the dispenser housing.

Will. I would recommend that you use a multimeter and check for power to the water inlet, if there is power then it could be a dispenser switch and or board.

Ellie for Model Number 110.42822201 Kenmore front load washer

FH code. I disconnected and connected power. I can pause and restart, but after a minute shows the FH code again and I have being able to finish my washing task like that. The Cold and Hot Water flows well and I see no drainage issues. I did noticed however that the softener liquid stays in the dispenser because the lever got stuck in phase II. I have order the actuator, the cam and the lever, the two latter are in good condition but I'll rather replace the whole set. However, the screw (part # 8181728) is missing and it's no longer available thru the manufacturer. I see NO other screw that can replace it. Any recommendations?

Ellie, Based on the information provided the FH error could be a couple of different issues. It indicates that the pressure switch did not show water in the tub or the flow meter did not show the proper flow of water. These could be defective switches and/or lose wiring connections between them and the CCU. Check the wiring connections, this error could also be caused by a syphoning issue at the drain. Check to make sure the drain hose is not too tight in the standpipe or too far down into the standpipe.

Michael J, Based on the model provided i would check for power to the inlet valves and power from the CCU, then use the tech sheet packaged with the machine and start with the diagnostic test.

Emily for Model Number whirlpool duet front loader F8E2

I have a Whirlpool Duet WfW94HEXW1 front load washer. I am getting the error code F8E2. The service manual identifies this as "dispenser system error" I follow the procedure to clean it but it doesn't work. the dispenser motorbikes a clicking sound but never stops and just goes back and forth. The washer does not fill with water. I read online the switch-dis may just need to be replaced or the contacts could just need to be cleaned. Can you tell me exactly how to get to the switch dis contacts? Thanks! Emily

1 Answer

Emily, there is a service pointer out on your model that states there is a problem with the motor for the dispenser, use part number WPW10352973 for your repair.

Fred, You forgot to attach a model number, you'll need to retrieve the tech data sheet(usually attached to the inside of the lower access pane. Remove the top panel then program the control for the Diagnostics Test and review the logged error codes, see if there are any dispenser error codes. When the test progresses to the operational test (C:00) and observe the dispenser motor, linkage and diverter to make sure it operates properly and the diverter assembly moves to the proper position, and dispenses the water to the proper compartment.

Hello Samantha, This is a dispenser circuit error that occurs if the dispenser motor is not able to be driven to its proper position. You will need to check the mechanical linkage from the dispenser motor to the top of the dispenser. Check Wire Harness connections to the dispenser motor and Central Control Unit (CCU). Check the Dispenser Motor.

Andy for Model Number GHW9100LW1

My washer frequently will not start when holding down the start button. Sometimes if you fiddle with the doors and knobs, it will start, or if you wait for a minute or two. I replaced the door switch but that did not change anything. I tried plugging and unplugging the wire harnesses to clean them, but no change. I tested the door switch, and it worked fine. But when I test the dispenser switch, it always reads open (i.e. Not 0 ohms), no matter the position of the dispenser. How is it supposed to work? How do I replace it?

1 Answer

Andy, Yes the dispenser switch being bad would cause the unit to not start because it is sensing the drawer being open. To access the dispenser switch you would need to remove the top panel and this will give you access to the motor. The motor would be screwed to the top of the dispenser assembly.

Hello Ian, This happens because the water valve is cycled multiple times by the control after dispensing has taken place. The owners' manual should state that there will sometimes be water in the dispenser cups by design.
