The Door Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It plays a crucial role in ensuring the dishwasher operates only when the door is securely closed. The switch signals the control board that the door is shut, allowing the wash cycle to begin safely.

You should replace the door switch if it becomes faulty or damaged. Causes of a bad door switch can include wear and tear from regular use, electrical issues, or physical damage from forceful closing of the door.

Symptoms of a bad door switch include:

  • The dishwasher not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to the door latch or door switch
  • The dishwasher operating with the door open (safety issue)
  • No response when pressing the start button

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Door Switch (Part Number: OEM18036891)

Craig for Model Number KUDK02CRBS0

Dishwasher stopped mid cycle, according to my girlfriend! It has power to the touchpad, lights all work, when you push the start/restart button it flashes its green light continuously. I have a different brand, but when this light flashes on mine, it indicates that the door has been opened or not completely closed. It is level, I'm wondering if it's the door switches, latch or striker. I'd like to test the switches before I start ordering parts. Could you advise me what "specs" I should be looking for when testing the switches? Thank You!

1 Answer

Jerrsark, The normal light flashing would be caused by a faulty membrane switch. This would require the control panel to be replaced.

Goo Buck, You need to check the door strike and check the latch assembly to make sure that they are meeting up properly. It sounds like the latch has failed and would need to be replaced.

Hello Philley, When the clean light flashes it can only mean one of two things. It can mean that a button is stuck and the control panel is in need of replacement or it can mean that the heating circuit has failed. The way to tell which has happened is that if the heating circuit has failed, the clean light will flash seven times with a pause and then flash seven times with a pause, etc. If this is the case, you need to troubleshoot the heating circuit. There are five components: the heating element, the high limit thermostat, the door switch, the control, and the wiring harness. There should be a tech sheet behind the kick panel which will show the wiring diagram. This should enable you to shoot through the circuit with an ohm meter. If it reads open from the control board, you will need to test each component individually. I have found that if the unit is solidly mounted under the counter top and is properly leveled, the heating element is the most common part to fail.

What does closing the door do besides turn on the door switch? I take the screws off that attached the console panel to the inside mental panel of the door, and then open up the console panel while keep all wire connections. This exposed the door switch. I pressed the actuator which turn on the switch and then press the cancel/drain button, why doesn't the dishwasher run? What is the difference between closed the door which activate the door switch and manually pressing the door switch (the inside panel of the door is closed)? Thanks.

1 Answer

Hello Miguel. That is all it does is makes up the door switches. If manually trying this, you need to make sure the latch is good and straight or you may only activate one switch.

Noel, If you have power at the outlet, your next check is at the electrical junction box on the frame of the dishwasher, behind the lower access panel and kick plate. Remove the cover and check to make sure the wire connections have not come loose or are discolored or damaged. If all's OK, you'll want to remove the inner door liner, and check the control panel thermal fuse W10258275 If it opens, it will remove power to the control board and the dishwasher will not operate and the lights will not illuminate.

Charles, This issue sounds like it is being caused by a faulty door latch assembly and handle not making proper contact to latch. This will also have to do with the switches not making contact.
