Symptoms of a bad Micro Switch include:

  • The ice or water dispenser not functioning
  • Intermittent operation of the dispenser
  • Stuck dispenser preventing ice or water from stopping

Causes of a bad Micro Switch can include physical damage from heavy use, wear and tear over time, or electrical issues such as short circuits that impair the switch's function.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Wes for Model Number ED2KHAXVQ01

Water dispenser not dispensing when pushbutton filter is installed in grill. Normal dispensing occurs when filter is removed. Filter has been replaced twice thinking there may be blockage. Originally, the problem was cleared with the filter replacement. Few days later, problem reoccurred and had not worked since when filter is installed. Prior to total failure, there was a hornlike sound when lever was pushed to attempt dispensing water through filter. The hornlike sound does not occur now when lever is pushed and still no water when filter is installed.

Hello Wes, You should open the dispense area to inspect for broken pins that should be securing the microswitches on the control bracket W10762670. This is the most likely cause of the complete stoppage while the sound is normally attributed to water valve W10822681 failure.

Hello Francisco, The micro switch in the dispense area will have nothing to do with water fill. If the water valve receives 120Vac for the 6 to 7 seconds it is supposed to during the icemakers' cycle, the water valve is bad. If it never sends the voltage to the water valve, the contacts inside the icemaker have failed and the icemaker will need to be replaced.

Brian, The first check should be a clogged filter or low water pressure. If your sure those are OK, then check for a stuck actuator switch WP2162361 or stuck button 2210502. Remove the two mounting screws and lower the assembly and check the button and switch, before you remove or check the operation of the individual components.

Pat, Check the crushed/cube solenoid by the auger motor to make sure that is not stuck in the up position and the ice bin arm is in it properly. If it is stuck then you will want to get it back to the down position. This should correct the issue and if not then the solenoid would be faulty and need to be replaced.

Hello Roger, You need to pull the tech sheet from behind the kickpanel and run the diagnostic mode. This will pull the fault codes and point you in the direction of the problem.

Hello Jerry, If the fans do not run you will probably need to replace the adaptive defrost control 4388932. If the fans are running you will need to pull the unit out and remove the start relay from the side of the compressor and shake it. If it rattles, it will need to be replaced to start the compressor. If the compressor is already running, you should remove the rear freezer wall and check the frost pattern. It should be even at least 3/4 of the way down. If there is frost an inch thick only on the very top of the evaporator coils, this is an indication of an air circulation problem. The air return into the bottom of the freezer section and on the fresh food side should be checked for obstructions. Also check the fan motor for normal full speed operation.
