For Whirlpool Dryer Timer Control (Part Number: OEM18049620)

Roxanne, You will want to check to see if the motor is getting 120 vac when you are pushing the start switch. Another thing to do is to open the door and tape the door switch to the closed position, push the start switch and turn the drum. If the drum starts turning on its own then the start winding in the motor is bad. If not then the timer would be the most likely cause.

David, The best way to determine which side you are loosing power on it to disconnect 1 wire from the heating element. Then you will want to turn on the unit and test from each of the wires (continuing to leave one wire disconnected) to ground. There should be 120 vac on each line. If one of the lines does not have voltage then that is the side that is loosing power. If it is the side that goes to the thermal fuse and hi limit then it is the timer side and if it is the other wire then that would be to the motor.

Hello Rafael. If the heat only works by hitting the timer, you will need to replace the timer on the unit.

Hello Kenneth. The no heat is causing the timer not to advance. Check and make sure you have 240 volts coming to the dryer. Check and make sure the unit is not set to Air Fluff. Also check the heater and thermostats and see if they are good. You can test these with a multi-meter MA-DM1. They should read closed for continuity. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Tony

After drying a few loads of clothes without any problem, my wife checked on a load of clothes and they weren't dry so she thought they just needed to dry for another cycle. Pushed the start button and nothing. I ordered the thermal fuse and have replaced it. Still nothing. But I can hold in the start button and turn the timer button back and forth quickly and the dryer will sometimes start but will only run for a few minutes at most, and it is not heating. Does the seem like it could be the timer switch or motor? Thank you.

Leroy, If the timer continues to run and the dryer goes past the off position while running then the timer is the most likely cause of the failure WPW10185972.

Hello Sandy, The only components you didn't check were the timer WPW10185972 and the motor 279827. The easiest way to test the motor is to reach inside the unit and spin the drum while holding the door switch and the push-to-start switch. If this doesn't cause the unit to start up, the timer is the issue. If it does start, the start winding in the motor has failed.
