The Timer is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. This part manages the duration of the drying cycle. This part plays a role in the operation of your dryer, ensuring that clothes are dried efficiently and thoroughly within the predetermined time.

Common issues include cycles that end too soon or run much longer than necessary, which can lead to clothes being damp after a cycle or excessively dry and potentially damaged.

Symptoms of a bad Timer include:

  • The dryer not starting when the timer is set and the start button is pressed.
  • The dryer stops mid-cycle, which indicates that the timer contacts aren’t working properly.
  • Unusual or no ticking sound from the timer.
  • Clothes not drying properly due to the dryer not adhering to the selected time.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Timer (Part Number: OEM18027084)

Bostongeorgio, You will want to check the venting to make sure that it is not clogged and then check the rollers to make sure that they are free rolling. It is possible that there is a drag on the motor which is causing it to kick out on overload.

Robert, Recheck and make sure the tan/white wire is attached to the proper terminal of the new motor (5M). Then check for a "closed" circuit between terminals GY(gray) and WB(white/black) at the timer terminals, with the timer set in the timed dry portion of the dial. If all's OK, check or replace the electronic control board WPW10476828.

Erica, if it is for the timer WP3976576 it would be the price listed on our site. However, if you are asking for the price of the appliance itself, we do not have that information. Thanks.

Hello Casey, The only way this could be possible is if the wrong motor were installed in the timer to begin with, since the correct motor for the timer is non-polarized and reversing the wires to it would have no effect. To answer your question, the timer motor for timers was at one time a replaceable part but they have not been available as a replacement part in over 15 years.

Hello lucyandpaco. It sounds like the timer needs to be replaced. If the motor issue continuies after, you will need the motor as well for the unit.

Bell for Model Number 110.64912200

My dryer worked out, one cycle had to be dried twice, but the next morning nothing. I was told to change the thermal fuse, that wasn't the issue. I was told to clean it so I took it apart to find that there was only a small amount of lint to clean out. Now I'm told it may be the timer? I am lost and need my dryer! LBVS! I push the start button, no sound or movement. The light comes on (if that matters). Nothing else. Is it a lost cause? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Hello Bill. Check the power cord and the terminal block for burnt wires and spades on the power cord. This can cause the issue as well.

Tracy, We'd expect you to need a new timer WP3976576 in the near future, if not now. If what ever fell and broke the timer dial knob, was probably pretty heavy, chances are the timer shaft is bent or may have become out of alignment with the internal contacts of the timer. No it will not come with installation instructions, but it's not that hard a repair to perform. Unplug the power cord, remove the three or four screws across the back side of the control panel and "roll" it forward from the top. Remove the timer mounting screws, and reverse the procedure to install.

RC, Without a model number, it's a bit difficult to diagnose and make a recomendation. But basically, you want to make sure you have the proper power supply to the dryer at the outlet. At this point there's a slight possibility that the timer has a bad contact, but it's more likely and issue in the dryer motor itself, or the wiring. With a proper model number we can assist you better and more efficiently.
