The Timer is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. This part manages the duration of the drying cycle. This part plays a role in the operation of your dryer, ensuring that clothes are dried efficiently and thoroughly within the predetermined time.

Common issues include cycles that end too soon or run much longer than necessary, which can lead to clothes being damp after a cycle or excessively dry and potentially damaged.

Symptoms of a bad Timer include:

  • The dryer not starting when the timer is set and the start button is pressed.
  • The dryer stops mid-cycle, which indicates that the timer contacts aren’t working properly.
  • Unusual or no ticking sound from the timer.
  • Clothes not drying properly due to the dryer not adhering to the selected time.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Timer (Part Number: OEM18027084)

Dixie, It is a good idea to replace the operating thermostat. The only other possibility besides the motor would be the timer. Make sure the black and red wire terminals on the timer have continuity when it is set to a timed dry.

Jim, it would be recommended that the vent is cleaned out to ensure there is not an airflow issue through the vents. If there is not a grounded connection or wire, the next step would be to inspect the blower wheel WP697772. If the blower wheel does not rotate with the motor, it will cause air to not flow through and heat the cycling thermostat WP3387134. However, the hi-limit thermostat WP3390291 should cause the element to cut off at 250°F if the cycling thermostat does not heat up properly to cut off at 155°F. Based on the information that has been provided, there is an airflow issue which can be from the blower wheel or from the ventilation being clogged up.

Susan, For a proper diagnosis, we would need you to please verify the model number from the units' I.D. tag since it will not come up for us as a valid model number.

Matt for Model Number 110.66962501

The heating element turns on right away when I start the dryer and turns off after 30-45 seconds. It then comes back on every 3-5 minutes for 30-45 seconds, the dryer never heats up as the heating element won't stay on. I have checked Voltage at outlet 120V on left, 120V on right, 240V together. Same test at the terminal block on Dryer and same result, Tested Ok. Checked continuity on Motor Switch, Tested Ok. Tested Resistance on Timer Assembly, Tested Ok. Tested Resistance on Heater Element, Tested 10.2 Ohms, Tested Ok. Tested all 4 T-Stats continuity and resistance, Tested Ok. Just for Fun I replaced all 4 T-Stats, cleaned the entire casing of the machine. Also cleaned the exhaust duct, checked for obstructions, and left exhaust pipe off during testing. Thanks

Hello Matt, This can be caused by an electrically stressed, (failing), thermostat, a poor connection, or a failing contact in the motor or timer. I would begin with replacing the thermostats, WP3387134, and WP3390291. The thermal fuse and thermal cutout would not need to be replaced since, if they open, they will not reset which would cause you to just not have any heater ever.

Chris, You don't have many options, the best being to replace the timer WPW10436303 / WPW10436303. Most manufacturers don't supply the individual parts for a timer(now a days). You can also research the internet for timer repair companies such as [www.circuitboardmedics.com], [www.corecentricsolutions.com], [allbrandsappliancepartsrepair], [www.generaltimerepairs.com]. It may take a while to send and receive the timer, for the repair/remanufacture.

Hello Mike, This can be a stuck push-to-start switch WP3395385 or a stuck centrifugal switch in the motor assembly 279787. The push-to-start switch can be tested with an ohm-meter. It should read open, (no connection), until the switch is activated when it should read no resistance, (0 resistance).

Sorry, but you're not quite correct. If you had a timer problem you wouldn't have power to the gas valve, if you had no power to the gas valve, the igniter wouldn't glow. So, if the igniter glows, but doesn't cycle off then you have a faulty flame sensor WP338906 / 338906. If the igniter glows and cycles off in 30 to 60 seconds but there is no flame, then you would have a faulty gas valve solenoid 279834 / 279834 or no gas supply to the dryer. Good Luck and Thanks,
