The Dryer Timer is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dryers. It electronically controls the different stages of the drying cycle, from initial heat up to final cool down. The timer allows for programmed cycles and ensures clothes are dried thoroughly and efficiently.

Causes of a bad dryer timer include water intrusion leading to corrosion, physical abuse from impact or overloading, or standard wear and tear on integrated circuits over many cycles.

Symptoms of a bad dryer timer include:

  • Inability to start or continue drying programs
  • Premature ending of cycles
  • Erratic stopping and starting of drum rotation
  • No heat function during drying
  • Fault codes and shutdowns

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore dryers.

For Whirlpool Timer (Part Number: OEM18037770)

Hello Marty. It sounds like the venting system is clogged or kinked. You will need to check the vent and clean it out. Be sure and clean the vent pipe and the dryer air duct assembly. If the air flow is not good, the unit will retain moist air causing the clothes not to dry. Try running the unit with the vent unhooked from the back of the dryer and see if the dryer works properly.

Jimmie, With the unit not heating and the timer not advancing then the issue would be a faulty timer. You will want to check the thermal fuse next to the heater to ensure that it is not open but if it checks ok then you will only need to replace the timer. If it does not check ok then you will need to replace the timer and thermal fuse.

Mike, We don't quite understand the question, But, anything is possible. Most A/C timer motors are not polarity sensitive, and will run in one direction only, regardless of the wiring connections. If the timer is running backwards, you'll need to check the wiring connections at the timer terminals, and replece the timer if alls OK.

Hi Judy. One way to tell is to make sure that it is not running on Auto-Dry. The timer is the command center of the power distribution to each circuit. It is first in line after the door switch, since you said it is running and heating then the timer part # WP8299779 will be the next in line to get the power surge and open the timer motor winds / contacts from turning. Thank You.

Hello Andy. It sounds like a wiring issue in the dryer. Check all the wiring for loose, burnt, or broken wires. If all is good, and the motor and heater work properly, replace the timer WP8299779. Hope this helps.

Hi Craig. You will need to 1st change the timer so it can advance through the cycles. Part # WP8299779. 99% of the time this is only it if the motor contacts are not shorted to alow heat all the time. The heater can short to ground and stay partially on ,part # is 279838. If you are experiencing only the timer issue , then chances are that is all you have. Thank You.
