Armond, look at the wires going to the defrost timer, if you have Black, Pink, Red, and Orange, attach the black lead to the #2 terminal. If you have Orange, Pink, White, and Red, attach it to the #1 terminal.

Ken, unfortunately, the timer W10822278 is not designed for use with your model's wiring. As this is the case, it can not be guaranteed to operate properly. Based on how the new timer is designed, and your model's wiring, the terminal will go on terminal 3.

Jh for Model Number ed5hvexv002

I have a Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator, model ed5hvexv002. Recently I have noticed that the refrigerator turns off and not back on. I saw a video about putting a screwdriver head under the defrost timer and turning it until you hear a click. I would turn the refrigerator dial to off and then turn the defrost timer with the screwdriver until I would hear one click (as there are two total clicks back to back but I would stop after one click). I then would have to rapidly turn the refrigerator dial from off to usually up to "2" and eventually the refrigerator would kick on and start cooling. After x amount of hours it turn off and since it would not kick back on, I would have to repeat the steps above. It sounded like a defrost timer going bad (after 10 years of use) so I bought a new one. I noticed on the new one a blank hanging wire with a connector on the other end. The one that I removed from my Whirlpool (the original defrost timer that came with the unit) did not have this black hanging wire with metal copper-looking connector. I watched a few videos but unsure which of the prongs on the defrost timer the copper connector goes on. I have tried a few different ones but the refrigerator doesn't kick on (there is power) and turning the dial does nothing. I also tried turning the dial on the base of it with a screwdriver like I did with the original one but nothing is turning it back on. The unit was getting quite cold so there is always a chance that I put the copper connector over the wrong prong on the new defrost timer. I will check but if you can let me know based on my model # which numbered prong the connector goes over, I would appreciate it. Other than screwing it back in and replacing all the screws that I removed I can't figure out what else I am doing.

Hello JH, the jumper wire of the defrost timer for your model refrigerator goes on terminal 1. The erratic cooling on the ref is likely caused by a failing cold control, the replacement part is WP2198202.
