This mechanical timer sequences the dishwasher through its wash, drain, and dry steps. Replacing a failing timer restores proper cycle advancement so the dishwasher starts, progresses, and finishes cycles reliably. What it does:

  • Times and sequences power to the wash motor, drain pump, fill valve, and heater for each stage of the cycle
  • Advances the cycle automatically and moves the dial/indicator through programmed steps
  • Coordinates wash, rinse, and dry durations for consistent results
  • Typical failure symptoms: cycle won't advance or stops mid-cycle; runs too long; must be advanced manually; timer knob won't turn
What's included:
  • 1 mechanical timer assembly
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power at the breaker before servicing; do not rely on the control panel to turn the unit off
  • Access the timer from the control console/inner door; remove screws to reach the component
  • Photograph/label wire positions and transfer leads to the new timer one at a time
  • Reuse existing mounting hardware and knob; ensure the shaft orientation matches before reassembly

Hello Fred. You will need to unplug the machine and remove the two screws in the back corners of the control panel. Then pull the panel forward and flip it backwards. Next, with the timer knob pressed in, you will pull out the clip on the back of the timer and pull the knob off the timer and remove the skirt. Now release the timer and unplug the wires going to the timer. Reinstall in reverse order with the new timer WP8557301. Hope this helps.

Carlos, Check and make sure you have cold water, supplied to the fill valve on the back of the washer. Disconnect the hose and check for sediment in the fill hose screens and the valve screen in the fill valve. No cold water will make the machine stop at the start of the rinse cycle, It's automatically a cold water fill in the rinse cycle. Thanks and Good Luck

Hello Carlos. If the washer tries to fill, but just continues to fill and never fills up to run, you will need to check and see if the drain hose is to far inside the drain pipe and is siphoning out the water. Hope this helps.

Hello Rob. Check and see if the cold water valve is bad on the water valve WP3979346. Ste the machine to cold/cold wash and see if it does the same thing at the beginning of the wash cycle. If so, you will need to replace the water valve. If not, you may have a bad pressure switch. Hope this helps.
