Rob, The cycling thermostat would be the most likely cause for the unit not advancing in the auto dry cycle which could also cause the unit to not heat.

Garland, If the unit is drying on one setting but not the other then the timer contacts would likely be sticking or not making contact and the timer would need replaced.

Roughly 10 year old, LP Gas dryer, 8 cycle, 4 temp, commercial quality (it says) 2 Questions: 1. Tried numerous types of drying with the timer rotating as expected during the elapsed time and same problem has occurred: You can hear the relay click to start the heat part of the drying cycle and see the glow of the igniter, stays on for about 5 seconds and then turns off, but the gas doesn't come on and generate the flame. The outlet is clear as I had the back off last week when this problem was intermittent and seemed to fix itself (temporarily). 2. This is an 8 function timer and you only hear it clicking as you turn it CW in a few positions. Seems upon arriving at an OFF position there is a definite click. Other thing is that it rotates CCW with no resistance. Is it supposed to rotate CCW. I did check the thermal fuse last week while into it and it was good. Thanks, Mark

Vernon, Yes, based on the description of the problem with the unit, the timer would most likely be the cause for failure. You will also want to check the cycling thermostat to make sure that it has continuity across the 2 outer larger leads.

Alex for Model Number LGR8648PW0

We normally use automatic dry mode on and noticed that it doesn't move past less dry. Clothes are dry but it keeps running. Tried timed drying with no issues. Without it running I can turn dial in timed drying and fluff air but in auto dry I have resistance when I turn it to between energy preferred and less dry. I cleaned out dryer venting. Seems and feels like it is the timer. Also read it could be cycling thermostat or dryer ignition coils or thermal fuse. I would like to order the correct part or parts. If you can please steer me in the right direction it will be greatly appreciated. Any other info needed please let me know and thanks.

Alex, With there being resistance on the timer between energy preferred and less dry it sounds like the contact for the timer may be faulty. The timer part number is WP8299766.

Hello Adam, This is caused by a crimped, clogged or excessively long and complicated exhaust duct. This is in the case where the unit turns of at the end of the timed dry cycles normally. If it does this on any cycle, the centrifugal switch in the motor 279827 or the timer WP8299766 can be the cause.

Bruce, Your first check needs to be to the exhaust venting and hood. If there is an issue with the airflow, the dryer timer will not advance, and the temperature in the dryer drum will seem low. Since the timer does advance in the wrinkle cycle, the timer itself should be working properly.

Steve, You will want to test the door switch to make sure that it is good. With door closed you should have continuity. If not then the door switch would need to be replaced. Also check the thermal fuse on the blower housing for continuity. No continuity means that it is bad.

Donny, You will want to check for continuity on the heater housing for continuity. The thermal fuse WP3392519 should have continuity and if it does not then it would need to be replaced.
