This is a 60 Hz timer that controls the duration of drying cycles in a clothes dryer. It advances through each stage of the cycle and signals the motor and heating components to turn on or off at the appropriate times. Replace this timer if the dryer will not start, the cycle does not advance, the timer knob spins freely without clicking, or if the dryer runs continuously without shutting off.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dryer Timer (Part Number: OEM18037758)

Hello AC. It sounds like the venting system is clogged or kinked. You will need to check the vent and clean it out. Be sure and clean the vent pipe and the dryer air duct assembly. If the air flow is not good, the unit will retain moist air causing the clothes not to dry. Try running the unit with the vent unhooked from the back of the dryer and see if the dryer works properly. Hope this helps.

The dryer will not start, run, heat up....nothing. If you set the timer you can hear it run; sometimes it runs thru the cycle it is set for, and other times, it only runs for a few seconds. Pushing the start button causes the timer to quit. The thermal fuse appears to be good when tested with a digital VOM. The thermistor when cold and out of circuit tests open. Without a wiring diagram, I am not sure where to look for the problem. I am hoping you can provide some direction. Thank you

Hello Bdobbs, it sounds as though you may have a problem with the start switch on your motor. It's the plastic piece on the motor where the wires attach. It has to be activated once you release the start button and it doesn't sound as though that's happening. Sometimes lint will build up around the centrifigal mechanism and keep it from working correctly. If the switch itself is bad it will require ordering a new motor.
