This is a mechanical defrost timer that controls the automatic defrost cycle of the refrigerator. It periodically shuts off the compressor and energizes the defrost heater so frost can melt, helping maintain proper cooling performance.

  • Cycles the unit between cooling and defrost at set intervals
  • Stuck or failed timers can cause warm temperatures, heavy frost, or continuous running
  • Can also cause short-cycling or no-cool if contacts fail
What's included: One defrost timer assembly only. Installation notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing
  • Access is typically from the control housing or rear service area; note wire positions before removal
  • Replace one-for-one with the same terminal orientation; do not force the cam
  • After install, allow one full cycle to verify defrost operation

Hello Brian, there are several components that may cause this, however, most likely is the push- to- start switch WP3977456, the electronic control board is no longer available from the manufacturer.

Hello Larry, You should pull the tech sheet and activate the factory test mode. This will help pinpoint the issue with the unit. The wiring diagram is on this sheet also so you can trace the circuits and test harnesses during diagnosis.

Ed C for Model Number Sears Kenmore Electric Dryer 110.62952100

Awhile back my dryer started to stop running prematurely and the signal (end of cycle) would sound that it was finished. This occurs on either the Air Moisture Sensing Plus or the Timed Dry side at about the same spot on the dial. At first it was erratic and then it would happen all of the time at about the same spot on the dial. For example, at the present time I set it on timed dry for 28 minutes and usually the dryer will turn off and signal it’s done at about 22 minutes. In all cases I hit the start button and it will start back up and continue drying the set time. Then on other occasions (setting on 28 minutes) it will not stop at 22 minutes and finish the set time. There have been times it would stop at 40-45 minutes after starting at 60 minutes (and signal), I would hit the start button and it will start drying again and then would stop & signal once again right away. Again, I would hit the start button and it starts back up and move down to about 30 minutes where it would shut off again. That's why I have been setting it at 28 minutes.... I dry all of the time on medium heat.

Hello Ed. Check the vent on the unit first. If it is good, you may actually have a timer iss with the unit and need to replace the timer WP8299771.

Mike S for Model Number kenmore elec dryer 110.63942101

Hello, When I start my Kenmore elec dyer, regardless if the cycle is timed or moisture sensing, it will run then it stops. When I push the start button again it runs but as soon as I let go of the start button it stops. This happens regardless of temp setting too. I am able to get it started if I turn timer to off, open and close door and restart. I don't know if it might be the timer, start button or something else. What do I need to do?

Ken for Model Number Sears Kenmore Dryer model 11072952100 S/N 2808315

Hi, Set Dryer for about 60 minutes, will quit after about 10 minutes, then will stop dead . When this happens, the timer moves fast, even though it was set for 60 min, it will travel to about the 40 min setting and stop, all within 5 minutes. It will not latch and run anymore, I have to hold the run button down for another 5 minutes until the timer advances all the way to "Stop", then all is good again (normal operation) for many weeks. Thanks Much Kenny

Bobareno, It's more likely a sensor bar issue in the drum under the lint filter housing WP3387223 or a control board issue WPW10116565. these two components communicate with each other and directs the timer to advance or stall based on the information. We'll send you some wiring and test information so you can verify the component operations.
